题目:ISSUE87 - "In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important discoveries."
字数:541 用时:70min 日期:2007-7-8
There is a controversy over the issue who, beginner or expert, is more likely to make important discoveries. Some people claim that expert can achieve great success due to their deep understanding toward the certain issue, while others advocate that beginner may think critically without any bind thus are more likely to discover new things. On balance, I would argue that both beginner and expert can make important discoveries.(On balance给我一个信号,是平衡观点,先放在这,后面检验看,首段写法注意一下,有一点平淡,估计楼主和我一样都遇到了英语表达无法完全反映自己思想的问题。。呵呵)
On the one hand, expert can make great achievements based on their knowledge and abilities which are accumulated from thousands of times of trials.(我觉得要说也先说beginner比较好吧,因为作者是偏向beginner的,直接撤出自己的观点,不大合适我觉得。) For example, Newton(is) the(a) great scientist, who attained a great success in the domain of physics, learned a lot before his success. One of his famous sayings is like this, "Only when we stand on the shoulders of giants can we look further", (8错,虽然我也知道这句话,但是我就是不大会用名人名言哈。。)this is to say, (最好另起一句)an expert who is equipped with fruits of his forerunners is more likely to make an advance in the area. Another example is the great painter Vinci (Da Vinci把..写完人家名字哈,我甚至觉得应该写Leonardo Da Vinci,以示尊重,Vinci....太亲昵了吧。。哈哈)of the Renaissance. Before his great masterpieces such as "Mona Lisa" came out, he practiced and thought a lot and to master the painting skills. He also developed the theory of drawing by the method of using lights and shadows. We can't imagine how he can make such great accomplishment without his skills which are trained step by step.(虽然罗列了两个example,但是我觉得论述不充分,一个是你例子的表达没没有很有针对性,然后针对例子的分析不足)
On the other hand, however, we can not prove beginner can achieve little. Instead, they often make great discoveries which even the experts can not make. Here is an example for this. Louis Victor de Broglie, whose major is history, enters the world of physics to get a doctor's degree. For professors who research physics for almost their lives and students who have paid most of their time in physics, de Broglie is a complete new comer. But with his critical thinking as well as endeavor, he proposed the concept of "matter wave" which is later accepted by the academe.(还是要多对例子分析一下吧,这个例子不错,学习了) In this sense, we can conclude that beginner also can make significant discoveries if they think in a unique way and make his efforts.
Finally, I'd like to point out that people who want to make an achievement in his work, no matter he/she (he or she 是正确的表达,你这是he除以she哈?)is an expert or beginner, he/she has to do his endeavor. Striving is the first character of a successor. Further, an expert should think critically, he/she also has to learn other knowledge to make his outlook brighter and adopt the novel thinking. Let's come to the example of Newton again. He discovered the universal gravitation by thinking of the apple drop to his head from a tree. Without his background of physics, he may not have the ability to analyze this, but without a careful observation and creative thinking, he may lose the chance. Another scientist Watt's invention of Streaming machine also told us the significance of thinking. For a beginner, at the same time, what he needs to do is firstly learn the basic knowledge well, if de Broglie didn't fully research the area concerned, no valuable theory could have been raised.
In conclusion, no matter expert or beginner can make great discoveries due to their respective advantages. However, they should learn from others' strong points to offset their weakness.(总结不充分)
