With the advance of technology and the development of society, people enjoy the conve6hnience and happiness of modern lives. However, there are some persistent problems which trouble them great. It is suggested a global university should be established by all nations to solve these problems. In my opinion, this suggestion over-evaluates the effects of a global university and omits its feasibility.

The complexity of most persistent social problems in our times exceeds the ability of any university to deal with them. These problems lie in every aspects of our lives, which include climate changing and air pollution, conflicting among different ethnics and between the poor and the rich, as well as problems resulting from globalization and modernization. Almost every nation is involved in such problems and any nation can solve them indepently. For decades, an amount of factors in politics, economics and culture interact and constitute the profound and complicated resource of problems in which different interests conflict. Take the environment problem for example, the poor countries face the dilemma of developing industries and protecting environment. To make sure their people out of starvation and explosue, they have to encourage industries even sometimes on the expense of doing some harm to environment, including cutting rainforests in a great amount and exploiting resources excessively.

To build up a glabal university engaging students in solving these social problems is helpful for students to gain broader views on the upper level, and it is likely for students to produce some new ideas since they are so young and active. But on the other hand, as young men, they have not enough experience in facing political and economical dilemmas to truly grasp the real reasons and different interests underlying anyone of these problems and conflicts.  It is a hard and maybe impossible fro students to develop a series of systematic, deep-digging investigation and research, not mention to put forward a set of feasible measures to any complicated problem. Students cannot afford the duty to solve problems for all human beings which should be the responsibility of the politicians, economists and enviormentists.

Furthermore, in reference to establishing a global university, the different concerns of varies nations would lead to new problems in school construction and administration which may be cause new conflicts among nations. How much does each nation invest to set up a global university and support students’ research? Can some developing countries in Africa afford the expenditure since most their people are still facing dangers from starvation and exposure? Taking the different quality and contents of education in nations into account, How to set standards which are assured equal and just for students to enroll. Meanwhile, is it just to make sure the same percentage of students and teachers among each country? What’s more, the fact that All nations around the world differ dramatically in politics, economy and culture, would give rise to the divergence in the selection of research subjects. The developed nations would be more likely to favor environmental problems than problems causing by globalization, because globalization can provide them with cheaper raw materials, quantities of workforce and broader markets. Success depends on details. Similarly, Weather the global university can engage students in effective and enlightening research depends on these details.

In sum, the essence of these consistent social problems is how to balance among different parts and interests, which relies more on cooperation among nations and areas than the research of a global university.
