TOPIC: ARGUMENT2 - The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.

"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."

This argument base on the evidence that average property value have triple in the nearby Brookville community in the following of landscaping the community's yard and  painting colors on the exteriors of homes and therefore suggest it should be applied to Deerhaven Acres as well. Although it is sensible at the first appearence, looking close to this argument make this  conlusion unconvincing at all.

First of all, this argument makes the assumption that tripling of average property value has a cause and result relationship with landscaping as well as coloring the exteriors of homes in Brookville because one happens after the other. However, this assumption does not necessarily reliable. Perhaps it is just a coincidence that one follows the other.  It is likely that the the property value of Brookville rising dramaticly because a new university is constucted in Bookville and the demand rises greatly. In that case, attributing the rising of property values to the change of appearance with homes commits to a critical fallacy logicly.

Moreover, even if it is indeed that Brookville has prometed its property values by landscaping the community yards and coloring the exteriors of homes, this method does not necessarily apply to Deerhaven Acres as well. Especially considering that these tow areas may not have nothing in common. Perhaps Brookville locates near  a beautiful sea shore while Deerhaven Acres just a small community without many people visiting there. In such case, decorate the house and community yard might bring a great travle value and in turn increase the property value in Brookville. Without considering and comparing the different location and environment of both areas, the conlusion is weakened as it stands.

Furthermore,  the author bases his/her conclusion that only by adopting the set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting itself can promote the value of property. This is also necessarily the case. Rising the value of property dependent on many other exterior factors such as development of this area, transportation condition as well as education level. Without considering and developing these and other related factors, it is too cursary to conclude that adoopting the set of restriction itself can lead to the rising of property value.

To sum up, the author does not provide any solid evidence that decorating the community yard and exterior home in Deerhavens can lead to the rising of property value as Brookville. To strengthen the conclusion, the author must demonstrate that the rising value of property in Brookvill result from landscaping and coloring and Deerhavens have a similar situation and can promote their property value in the same way. Without strong evidence that mentioned above, the conclusion is unconvincing at all to persude homeowners in Deerhavens.
