In this statement, the speaker implies that our society should place more emphasis on the intellect. Admittedly, intellects such as reasoning and cognitive skills play an important role in the development of technology, which associates greatly to our life. However, the speaker overlooks the beneficial of non-intellect, which, in my view, is another important part of our society.

First of all, I fundamentally agree with the speaker insofar as intellect greatly magnified the advance speed of science. Emotions always serve as the impediment of succeed of science. Though the history of human endeavor, a society which place less emphasis on reasoning could impossible have a rapid advance in technology, even have an interfere for its economy and people. For example, the 1960s Chinese society takes on a terrible finance deficit due to focus its attention on a non-reasoning dream. And the death of Copernicus also aptly illustrates my opinion.  

However, as human beings, we also need some emotional connects with others. The more attention that society focuses on intellect, maybe the less it could be on the non-intellect areas such as compassion and empathy. And it's unfair for a society to do that. Consider a society lack the welfare for old people, the special facilities for disabled ones and the nurture systems for orphans. This kind of society will full of violent and other fidget event, because it does disobey the nature characteristic of human that we need certain care and we are a part of the society.

In the final analyze, whether to place more emphasis on either the intellect or the non-intellect one is case to case. Require our artists more reasoning may have the chilling effect that none great creativity could be make. In contrast, empirical evidences also showed us that people lack the education to nurturing reason could do harmful things to society. In fact, neither of the two in contemporary society is mutually exclusive. On the societal level, the society must seek to find the balance of these two respects, then, these two can serve for each other more effectively.

To sum up, the speaker is on the right philosophical side that intellect could make the technology advanced in a more starling rate, based on that, our society might be more convenient for human, but the speaker illogically overstate the asserts that society should place more emphasis on the intellect. In my view, both the intellect and the non-intellect areas are play an important role to society, neither of which should have an absolutely priority in the society.
