issue38[jet小组]第十二次作业 In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.字数:619 There is no doubt that we are encountering an age dominated by the television to certain extant(什么?). At such situation, many people call the importance of books into question and acclaim that people can learn as much by(from)watching television as they can by reading books. It's true that more and more people would like to chewing the potato chips when watching a TV program rather than reading a book alone, whereas, as a matter of fact, both of them are so important that they cannot replace each other. Compared with books, television displays a lot of advantages the moment it come to the people's lives. Not only because it's convenience to obtain the information, but also due to it's lifelikeness when showing the programs since it contains sound while books doesn’t.(这个句子有点。。。)Unlike television, books don't show those merits when people reading it. It's seemingly that books are neither convenient nor lively. Is that true? The answer is certainly not. Though you can not read a book with the button turning on, you can read it freely and repeat it if you wish. Though you can not hear the voice of the author (不可能是作者读吧)reading the content for you, you can "hear" more if you read it carefully. Though the characters of the books won't be active (应该说没有动态的图像把,书会动很吓人的)as they are in the television, you can create more vivid image if you take good use of your imagination. All of the benefits are avoid with the television. Books still play a significant role in contemporary society since it's incomparable advantages. For example, even today, schools still adopt text books as the primary approach to educate while television is subordinate to books. Supposed that when (不要)you(if you are a student) come back to school in a new semester, the teacher tell you that from now on there are no books and every students will learn through television. The reason the teacher gives you is that there are adequate knowledge you can get through television and there is no necessity for you to learn from books. How is your feeling? Can you believe that you can learn what you want from television? Surely not. In the age of television, so many people prefer books to television partly attribute to the fact that information in book is more systemic and insightful than television so that people can not only know it but also participate in it when reading. Therefore, it is possible that people can digest the knowledge even produce new knowledge because the systemic and insightful ideas in books are more likely to inspire the critical thinking of the readers. In fact, even though what people get from books is vary from that they obtain from television, both of them contribute to different people as well as different regions. For example, the illiterates, the kids and most of the housewives will probably spend more time in watching television because it is much easier for them to understand, while more students and teachers may prefer reading books since books offer more knowledge they need. As for the region, since television doesn’t cover all over the world, such as some countries in Africa, books may be the single choice for them to get the limited information they need.(例子不大好,电视也有介绍深奥的东西) To draw a conclusion, television can provide lively information for us in time while books can help us to formulate our critical thinking. Therefore, we can not underestimate the advantages both books and television. The sensible way to view the roles and functions of books and television is, to value both of them, to take good use of them, to get what we want from them, and to make our lives more colorful and meaningful with them.
