TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
WORDS: 659         TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2008-2-29 13:35:43

The assertion said that reading books is not as important as it once was so that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books in the age of television now, which is quite one-sided and unconvincing to me. In my point of view, it is certain that reading books is not as important as it once was but no doubt it is still important by all means, thus people should  never learn thing by watching television as deeply as by reading books.

The appearance and development of televisions has changed our life a lot, people are getting used to watching TV for entertainment as well as for learning in the age of television nowadays. In this era which is full of information, television as a kind of media which helps transfer information and knowledge fast. For instance, TV programs, especially documentaries such as 'National Geography', 'Discovery' etc., tell people histories, stories and a variety kinds of knowledge. Moreover, nobody would deny that they are having much fun in learning knowledge while watching television than reading books and even those illiterates could learn those academic things easily through the screen.

However, what we can get from the television is limited because of the time limitation and also the limitation of quality of those TV programmers themselves. Since staff working for TV programs is unable to be expertise who have knowledge of all-round fields, they are likely to make mistakes in their work and sometimes the history that they are tell to people is too complex for them to get to know all the truth. For example, I have watched a history-telling TV program which focused on the mystery of the death of Hitler. Actually, whether he is dead is still left to be uncertain for years, at the end of the program, it said that it is for sure that Hitler did die in his base for some materials that Russian government opened to public recent years. However, since the only one knows the real truth is Stalin, the ex-chairman of the Soviet Union, and he brought the answer of the mystery to grave, it is greatly possible what the program said is also wrong. In that case, people can learn things really wrong from television.

Furthermore, as I presented above, since of a lot of limitations televisions have, what we can learn from them can never be as much as by reading books. Moreover, the most general way is that people watching television for entertainment mainly and for learning as an attachment. Also, watching television are more likely to arouse people's interest of knowledge of certain fields or periods of history. For example, when the TV drama 'sexy and city' was on show, people buy the original book of the drama with the same title and read it. Also, people, especially kids, are more likely to get quick interested in the things are showing on television suddenly. For instance, when I was a little girl and once I saw a cartoon of dinosaurs on television, I just got too curiosity of this kind of creatures that I ask my parents to buy a huge amount of books about them and reading them with great interest and learn a lot about them.

In sum, reading can never be out-dated since books are fabulous achievement of humanity and those masterpieces are stay for classic, and those facts will never change because of the age of television or maybe some other things in the future. In my viewpoints, people would rather watching television for recreation to for learning knowledge although sometimes they like to have some lightly learning at the same time. The best and more general way for us to balance watching television and reading books is that we can watch television for entertain certainly, meanwhile, once we have found something caught our eyes and want to learn more, we can shift to reading books.

The assertion said that reading books is not as important as it once was so that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books in the age of television now, which is quite one-sided and unconvincing to me.长句可以变为长短句交错In my point of view, (it is certain that可以删掉) reading books is not as important as it once was but no doubt it is still important by all means, thus people should—can never learn thing by watching television as deeply as by reading books.

The appearance and development of televisions has changed our life a lot, people are getting used to watching TV for entertainment as well as for learning in the age of television nowadays. In this era which is full of information, television, as a kind of media ,which helps transfer information and knowledge fast. Moreover, nobody would deny that they are having much—much more 后面是比较 fun in learning knowledge while watching television than reading books and even those illiterates could learn those academic things easily through the screen.

However, what we can get from the television is limited because of the time limitation and also the limitation of quality可以说 as well as limited quality of those TV programmers themselves. Since staff working for TV programs is unable to be expertise who have knowledge of all-round fields, they are likely to make mistakes in their work and sometimes the history that they are tell to people is too complex for them to get to know all the truth—to fully understand. For example, I have watched a history-telling?原创的? TV program which focused on the mystery of the death of Hitler. However, since the only one who knows the real truth is Stalin, the ex-chairman of the Soviet Union, and he brought the answer of the mystery to grave, it is greatly possible what the program said is also wrong. In that case, people can learn things really wrong from television.时态不统一而且例子太惊世骇俗作者没有很清楚地阐述所以显得说理分量不足

For example, when the TV drama 'sexy and city' was on show, people buy the original book of the drama with the same title and read it.这个例子有点…换个哈里波特也比较好一点 Also, people, especially kids, are more likely to get quickly interested in the things are去掉showing on television suddenly. For instance, when I was a little girl and once I saw a cartoon of dinosaurs on television, I just got too curiosity of this kind of creatures that I ask my parents to buy a huge amount of books about them and reading them with great interest and learn a lot about them.这段很混乱 ts像在说看电视不好后面转来转去又像说电视好关联词用的也不准确

In sum, reading can never be out-dated since books are fabulous achievement of humanity and those masterpieces are stay for classic, and those facts will never change because of the age of television or maybe some other things in the future.需要斟酌 In my viewpoints, people would rather watching television for recreation to for learning knowledge although sometimes they like to have some lightly learning at the same time. The best and more general way for us to balance watching television and reading books is that we can watch television for entertain certainly, meanwhile, once we have found something caught our eyes and want to learn more, we can shift to reading

还是语言的问题无谓的堆砌长句从句反而混淆了逻辑显得混乱
整体上对电视的篇幅太多关于balance的太少结尾就显得突兀
一起加油吧~
