The superintendent claims that we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can enhance our profits by greatly expanding the sort of vegetable seeds we save for gardeners this coming spring because consumers are showing more and more interested(interests) in growing their own vegetables. To support this result, the superintendent cites that there was(删去) a national investigation conducted last month that(改为which shows) a great deal of consumers were not content with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets, and better to bolster his argument, the superintendent also put forward the fact that the gardenting magazine Great Gardents has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row at local place. The argument is substantiated at first glance, however, it can not bear consideration for the reasons that there are several fallacies in it.
Firstly, the speaker cites the national survey. Yet, he does not mention that how the survey was carried out, and I am a little worried about the efficiency of it. To begin with, how many participants were involved? In inquiry, the number of respondents is essential. If there are only a few persons that were asked questions, the result of research is unwarranted because they can not represent the whole people. What's more, the attitude of participants is also important, if they answer questions at random, the result of that survey is problematical. In short, for the purpose that the result of survey is representative and exact, the superintendent must give more evidence to illustrate the investigation which was mentioned above. Even the investigation is effective and people doubted whether the vegetables were fresh, it doesn’t mean that they will grow vegetables themselves and they may prefer to import them from other places.(感觉这个地方楼主攻击的有一点点偏了,攻击全国性的调查并不一定适用于小地方是不是更好一点呢?)
Secondly, the phenomenon that the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row can not indicate (reveal) that consumers got interested in growing vegetables. Perhaps the quality of magazine was improved, many beautiful pictures were added in order to boost the sale of magazine, or some important persons were invited to signature and tell some stirring words on it. In addition, probably, countless people only showed their hobbies in flowers instead of vegetables, which is possible for the reason that growing flowers in house is much easier for common people comparing with growing vegetables. In conclusion, the fact that sales of magazine drastically increase can not denote that tremendous people show interest in cultivating vegetables.
Thirdly, even if the assumption that a lot of people are surely interested in growing vegetables is reasonable, we can not conclude the contention that expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners can increase our profits by greatly. Maybe many people are only fond of a sort of vegetables, not of all sorts. On the other hand, even if people are keen on growing vegetable, it costs enormous time and energy, and many people likely do not possess this time and energy. Thus, interest in something can not lead to fulfill them.
In sum, the superintendent overlooks many problems, thus the conclusion is unsubstantiated. To better bolster this conclusion, the superintendent must present more evidences about the survey and the real idea of the common people on growing vegetables themselves.
呵呵,感觉楼主进步很大,继续努力..... |
