As all the nations turn to understand the importance of globalization, more and more people assert that a global university should be designed to help solving the world's social problems in every country. I can only agree with this assertion partly because I feel such an action may not solve the problems.

To begin with, let us think about it: what is the real aim of education? From nomadic tribe to modern society, education means teaching, learning and thinking. It makes students to have their own ideas and ways of thinking. So what will happen if the education is founded to help solving the world's most persistent social problems? Students in the university always lack of experience and general idea to consider about a question, that is what they need to learn in the university, or they can become the professors. So if the whole society regards these problems as the most persistent social problems, and even the national government or the social science academe cannot solve these tough problems, how can the students do? The education may help students to learn more about the problems, to gain more experience of the society, but it should not to be designed to solve the social problems, especially the world's most persistent social problems. And this kind of education cannot be successful because the goal is too high.

Second, I do not think to support such a kind of global university is necessary. We have the United Nation, we have the national government or we even have the army. They can help to solve the social problems and what's more, the United Nation and the army is essentially designed to solve the social problems. When some countries need cooperation or face of the same problems, UN should be the arbiter to modulate between these nations. Or if there is a conflict among several nations and UN can do nothing because these countries never listen to UN, the national army should come out to protect the nation's dignity and solve the problems. Or if we have the social problems in our own country, the government needs to do something to solve the problems. And I want to ask: what can the university do in these conditions? Teachers and students are not authority so not everyone believes them. And they also cannot fight in the war so they will never be the winner. Actually, such a global university seems useless of solving the world’s most persistent social problems.

Finally, I do not agree with the speaker because such all nations seem to be so absolute. Not every nation likes America and is able to support such a global university. Actually some African and Asian countries are suffered by the hunger, poverty and war. What they really care is weather they have the next supper, or even weather they can live after today. These nations lose their ability to solve these social problems, so I cannot believe only build a global university can solve the problems.

In sum, people are crazy about the education because they need it, and because the education brings them knowledge, experience and the ability to self-learning. We should never demand the government to support a global university only because it can solve the world's most persistent social problems. In fact, students in these universities are still incapable to solve the problems. And if we really want to help solving the problems, we should turn to the government or the United Nation for help.
