Nowadays,universities have set up all kinds of optional courses,for which students have access to learn whatever they like.However there's no consensus among students as to choosing the courses about foreign countries.Some people maintain that students should learn at least one course of culture of a country rather than their own,while others may disagree. From my personal angle alone,the former point coincides with mine and here are the reasons may contribute to my point.

First of all,the knowledge about foreign country's culture may give you a wide perspective to the world ,coupled with an advantage over your competitor to success in such a society with fierce competition.Imagine that you are taking a job interview,and coincidentally the interviewer is a foreigner from Japan,though you can communicate with him fluently in English,some perfect Janpanese come from your mouth may make you more impressive and competitive than those never learn the Japanese before.

Besides,it is the culture of foreign countries that makes us know more about the world outside.The language,history,people's lifestyle,all open a whole new world to our college students.We can see clearly during this Beijing Olympic Games,known to all, different people come from different regions of different countries.Although they cannot speak Chinese,neither understand it ,with the help of our volunteers these foreigners never feel the culture shock between the east and west.And what I have to mention is that most of the volunteers are students  at school.Thanks to the courses of foreign culture, Chinese students really have a chance to find out the world outside,and exhibit a energetic, openmind image of our new China.

What's more,the purpose to learn the foreign culture is not only to widen our sights or fullfil the personal satisfication,but also to provide an profound insight to measure ourselves and to get a clearer understanding of our own culture.I still remember a classic old saying written on the stone column in a Greece shrine,"Know youself".Our ancestors have told us a truth that the most difficult thing is not to understand others ,but to know youself.Therefore,the foreign culture may become a perfect method to make us get a access to our own culture,which we cannot understand all by ourselves.

To sum up,choosing more than one cousers about foreign culture not only make us gain the benefits to compete in society,know more about the world, but lead a way for us to explore our own culture as well.
