1.19 Issue 147 Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.
提纲:
I definitely agree that tradition and modernization coexist and contribute to the development of each other.
1, Tradition is an inherited pattern of thought or action that is handed down from generation to generation in a society. With the development of tradition, modernization comes to our life.
2 The so-called “modernization” is actually an extension or new iteration of tradition. Without tradition a lot of modern inventions wouldn’t be what it is appeared to us.
3, Tradition and modernization are quite compatible indeed, on which point evidence can be conveniently found.
In some aspect of modernization, tradition may be abandoned. Mostly, they coexist and contribute to the development of each other. Different focuses as they have, tradition and modernization together embrace the whole span of human history.
Tradition is an inherited pattern of thought or action that is handed down from generation to generation in a society. Though we are living in a modern world, we still obey tradition customs of the past. Chinese people always get together for dinner to celebrate the New Year's Festival at New Year’s Eve, though they may go home by cars and watching TV. Americans usually stay at home with families and friends on Christmas’ eve to celebrate the coming new year and they don't need to care about the cold weather since their houses are warmed by air conditioners. Besides obeying traditional customs, people still use traditional literatures to embellish their words about the modern society. A professor may add adages to their presentation on TV. Audience may hear old sayings in a political leader’s speech on the urbanization.
Modernization is around of us. Our daily life is deeply affected by Industrialization, urbanization, democratization etc. which construct the modernization system. When you catch the sight of a wagon and a car, both of which has four wheels, moving together on the street of Paris, wouldn’t you imaging the invention of the car? The so-called “modernization” is actually an extension or new iteration of tradition. Without tradition a lot of modern inventions wouldn’t be what it is appeared to us.
We can enjoy a much better life with modernization and tradition. Tradition and modernization are quite compatible indeed, on which point evidence can be conveniently found. Let’s take medicine filed for instance. Islamic medicine and psychiatric care were introduced to the Indian subcontinent in the twelfth and thirteenth century, during the Muslim invasion of the region. Today Muslim medicine offers a psychiatric care system alternative to that of biomedicine and is used by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The inclusion of the secular branch of Islamic medicine in the state public health systems of the region has lead to increased modernization of the traditional and, consequently, to important changes in its scientific identity and to the decline of particular treatments. So is the use of chinese puncture with that of physician care give patients a better way to cure their diseases. For another instance, without wagons tourists cannot enjoy a fancy way to tour the beautiful Paris.
Tradition and modernization can be compatible, and it is a modern challenge to preserve traditions in the course of modernization. By a combination of the both, people can enjoy more meaningful lives and are more justified in living in the beginning of the newest century, looking back to the past history in the back and looking forward to a brand-new century in the front.
