ISSUE70: In any profession-business, politics, education, government-those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.
I fundamentally agree that authority in any profession should provide opportunity to the newcomers in that they would bring in novel concepts and perspective of management which would be helpful for the enterprise to maintain vigorous. However, it would be presumptuous to claim that the dominion period should be five years, and that the power changes would be the most path to success without considering other possible methods. After all, some negative effects would occasionally come with dominion transformation.
Admittedly, any profession would more or less benefit from alteration of power holders for the reason that without changes there would not exist development. No one would remain stasis which violate the law of the nature that lies in permanent
movement. Experience informs me that the underlings would have more chances to observe the fundamental problems or feasible improvement of the enterprise in that they would deal with these problems in person. Hence, if given authority, they would probably use their power to find a solution to these problems and advance the enterprise along the path of success. For example, in my college our student government would regularly elect new president and vice presidents from the primary memebers of the organization. Each year when the election is holding, the former presidents would report their conclusion of the works which had been completed during the last year. Then the candidates would address their statement about their future plans and their abilities for competition. Hence every year we could have creative ideas and new concepts for the students works which are attributable to those novel leaders. Without fresh blood would one person suffer from asphyxia and blind, while it is similar to that of our student government in that if lacking of revitalization through new leadership we may trap in the bog of bureaucracy which is structrual rigid and lacking of flexibility and creativity that might impede the process of our future works. Dominion alteration, to some degree, would serve as ventilating fan that aerate "oxygen" to any enterprises for the purpose to keep them full of energy, and besides, it would also be an applicable way to prevent the
enterprise from autocracy or monopoly which would retard the proccess to great attainment of any enterprise.
Yet we should wary that negative effects always appear with the advent of authority changes. In ancient time, emperor's descendents and ministers would strive with each other for power and wealth after the emperor's expiration. For the purpose of pursuing authority they would arouse wars or put behaviors of assasination and espionage into effect which would be disasters for people. Even nowadays, during the election of the United States' president they spend countless money, most
part of which derives from tax payers. Medias would take 24-hour-long tracking report to maintain the public arrised of the latest news about the election, and the candidates would deliver their speeches that express their future plans of the country. However, when retrospect, we find out that our daily life was seriously disturbed by the election; moreover,we may surprisingly discover that the president could hardly comply his foregoing promises, and many people were manipulated by the
election groups for political purpose. The shortcomings of the leadership transformation sometime would offset its benefits, mostly in that publics have always been victims of those leaders. Another suitable case to illustrate the statement would be
in area of business. Once the new leader take management of the company he or she may confront with onerous tasks of getting familiar with the stuffs and the performance of the cooperation. It may take years for the new leader to adeptly handle with all of these problems that it would be too late for a company to grasp market opportunity and win success. Further, even if a person could skillfully cope with basic problems and have been thought of the potential new leader of the enterprise, however, he may actually lack of the ability of leadership which renders him unsuitable for the top position of the institution. If hastily elected, his deficiencies may ruin the past brilliant achievement of the company.
In sum, everything has its two sides, and we should notice that although leadership alteration has its merits, its shortcomings always comes with its advantages. If we appropriately alter the leader with someone who is acute and intellectual, the enterprise would advance along the path of success while that impetuous and improper transformation would result in harmful upheavels. |
