TOPIC: ISSUE99 - "In any realm of life-whether academic, social, business, or political-the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."

Competition in today's society is more and more serious in any fields. When the speaker asserts that people pay more attention on pragmatic behavior rather than idealistic view, I agree with this point. However, it is not convinced that in any realm of life, the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. In my view, idealistic view is also important to people.

Undeniably, in social, business and political realms, a practical rather than an idealistic point of view is very crucial in terms of triumphs. Activities of social activists, merchants' astute intelligence and politicians' sophism both can demonstrate this point. An excellent student graduated from commercial college is not equal with a successful businessperson, because what they learned from college is just idealistic knowledge and theories, they do not have any real experience of business. To succeed, they need to take more practices and to trade with more people. It is same in the political field that if people want to get success, they need to get more experience and rely on pragmatic behaviors, but not idealistic view. Most citizens want to see the real benefit that a political leader could bring to them, and the idealistic saying can not prove the real ability of a political leader. Hence, if political leaders want to get success and win the respect and trust of public, they need to pay more attention on the pragmatic behaviors and policy.

Nevertheless, pragmatism is not an all-winning general in all realms, especially in academic realms. Idealistic view is an impulse of human civilization. Many significant inventions and achievements in human history originated from an idealistic view, even a dream. For instance, there are many myths about the moon, and people desired to explore the moon for thousands of years. This conceit seems impossible and ridiculous in the past, but with the efforts of several generation people and the research of many scientists, people realized this conceit. In July 1969, the first human, an American astronaut Armstrong land on the moon. On the surface, this significant achievement is not relevant with idealistic view. Indeed, technology and science are essential to achieve this great aim, but the influence of idealistic view of the moon is also indispensable. It is people's dream of the moon to encourage people to persist in realizing this goal.

Furthermore, in humanity and art, idealistic ideas, idealistic view play a crucial role as to making great works. Philosophers are the biggest "idealists", because what they study is something theoretical, which have little relative with practicality, materials. However, philosophers are one of the greatest successors in history for their contributions to humanity's intelligence. Whatever Aristotle, Hegel or Confucius gave human plentiful wisdom. Their researches and theories are invaluable treasure to people the whole world. Otherwise, painters' work, though possible involving the real scenes, is mainly accomplished in their imagination and through the abstract form, a kind of idealistic form, represents their subject, thought and values. With little practical view, many painters also got success and respect in history.

In conclusion, both idealistic and practical views are important parts of human civilization. They have different significance in various fields. To ensure success, neither could be ignored.
