"Encouraging young people to believe that they can accomplish great things if they try hard enough is both misleading and potentially harmful."

It is right that no one can succeed without his/her hard working. Li-ka shing, for example, tytoon in business from Hongkong now, is a waiter in a restaurant at his age of 13 and a saler later years. Later on, he gradually became accomplished and created a world of his own. He thinks it is not irrevelent to his own world.

However, it is not enough to be successful alone with the virtue of diligent. A appropriate guidance, intelligence and chances are all important characters for one to win.

First of all, without a goal or direction, a confused man-akin to a boat in the sea without a compass-will eventually be lost no matter how diligent he was. It is certainly that a wrong or unsuitable guidance is also be harmful for an adolescent to grow up. In other words, direction decide success whether prior to diligent.

Secondly, a man needs intelligence as well if he has already hold right directions and worked hard. With intelligence, people may solve problems encountered his way to success. Also, a clever man knows how to keep in touch with other people and use sufficiently their aids and resources provided to him.

Last but not the least, are chances. No matter how diligent and intelligent you are, it is still useful enough for you to succeed. Also, a good net of relationship will also help you get a lot of chances to do good..

TOPIC: ARGUMENT26 - The following appeared in a memo from the chairperson of the school board in the town of Saluda.

"For the past five years, Mr. Charles Schade has been the music director at Steel City High School, and during that time the school band from Steel City High has won three regional band competitions. In addition, the quality of the music rehearsal facilities and musical instruments at Steel City High has improved markedly over the past five years. Because of such successes at Steel City High, the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system."

The author says that the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system. The reasons are, first, the band of Steel City High School has won three competitions in the last five years when he was the director. Secondly, some musical facilities at that high school improved also over the past five years. For the above two reasons, the Saluda school board think that it is wise to hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for that school system.
I think that the two reasons listed above are not good enough for the school to hire Mr. Schade to be the music education director for the school system.


First I would mention is that even though the band of that high school won three competitions, it may be not all contribution of Mr. Schade. Maybe other teacher helped, or the group member was excellent than other schools.

Secondly, it is very ridiculous to say that for Mr. Schade's reason that the quality of that high school's musical facilities improved. Maybe the school got bonus to buy much high quality facilities.


Thirdly, even though the above two reasons are established for Mr. Schade's sake, it is not enough for him to be a music director in a school.


To sum up, the listed reasons is not sufficient to illustrated that Mr. Schade is qualified to work as the anticipated position in the Saluda school. More information should be counted such as his working experience and credit in musical education and etc.
