Issue118In any field of endeavor—the sciences, the humanities, the social sciences, industry, etc.—it is not the attainment of a goal that matters, but rather the ideas and discoveries that are encountered on the way to the goal.
我的作文一向写得慢,各位大大勉强看看
Many fields require endeavor, however it is the ideas and discoveries that are met on the way really matter, rather than the attainment of a goal, as the speaker contends. I tend to agree with the assertion.
On the one hand, the attainment of a goal or the objective itself manifests its importance in three respects. First of all, the attainment symbolizes the endeavor in one period. Unknown persons will never be promoted, although they devote themselves to the company or work even harder than their peers-- one's visual achievement is the best way to judge individual's work rather than something abstract. It is unconscionable, but reveals the vital role that the attainment of a goal plays. In addition, great interest, inspiration stirred by the achievement. This is realistic world in which we live, so that persons are susceptible to influence. We may get down owing to loose a video-game, we may be blue because of the burden to carry on, similarly, we feel happiness when reach to where we want. Finally, settled objectives force people to fight for them, according to human psychological natures. To be exact, it is pressure comes along with desire for goals, which serve to more hard work. Paragons such as Churchill and Lincoln, respectively, come to my mind. Take Churchill for example, he was troubled with stammer during his childhood. Compared with those who were beaten up by the impedients, Churchill did all he could to be an orator, which seemed ridiculous to most people at time. But he made it, by swimming across the river of impedients, with endeavor and his desire for goals. Indeed it is primarily through the attainment of a goal that fields of endeavor advances.
On the other hand, however, the ideas and discoveries on the way are more important to some extends. At value level, if those midway discoveries have historical senses, we should turn our attention to significant ones. Take Benjamin Franklin for example, though his invention of lightening rod benefits human society, what people remember, however, is his discovery of the nature essence of thunder--electric spark. Another example is about Colombo, his found of New World shocked the world, which derived form a casual discovery on the way to India. So we can reach the conclusion that midway ideas have proved our many endeavor required fields, with an necessary or even indispensable role.
In sum, though the attainment is important in the endeavor required fields, at some point, however, I agree that what really matter are the ideas and founds encountered. Accordingly, on balance the speaker is fundamentally right. |
