写完之后自己好好斟酌了一下,发现一些段落不是很好,于是又重新写了一下,我把原始

Issue99 "In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or politic
al—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic
, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic v
iews tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."

The speaker's assertion that in every aspect in our realm of life, pragmatic
behavior acts a more important role than the idealistic views is totally corr
ect in my point of view although someone holds the opposite opinions that ide
alism is better than pragmatism. I would present my standpoints as followed.
Undeniably, as the allegation of those idealists that idealistic views toward
s the affairs are quite important in the process that we are seeking for succ
ess and construct our modern society. To this extent, we can get sufficient e
nergy and be full of confidence to challenge all kinds of conditions, and wit
h the firm ideals in our mind we can be sustained strongly by our destination
s and irresistible will, so comes the accomplishment of our dreams. Examples
like the struggle of Martin Luther King Junior can substantiate it powerfully
. In his world-famous speech I Have A Dream he illustrated an idealistic peac
eful world and clinching his belief he finally led the African-Americans to f
etch their deserving rights. From this aspect, we should acknowledge the rema
rkable function of being idealistic.
However, we should be aware that in the modern society, pragmatism is a leadi
ng conception in any fields since the efficiency and profits are what we huma
n are pursuing. Firstly, from the point of academic, all the research, invest
igation, thinking, theory in the academy should be endowed with practical fun
ctions, without which all the conclusions and ideas make no sense to the real
ity. No matter how great a economist and his theory is, if his theory can not
fit the reality and functions well in direct and predict the economical atmo
sphere in the relevant society or can not meet present condition, he makes no
contribution to prompt the development of the society. So when we are in the
academic field, a practical idea and theory can be far more valuable than an
aloft one.
(这个是原始的:a school should never imbue all the students with the doctrina
l and theoretical things that are of no use to help them survive in the socie
ty with the unimaginably intense pressure from the employment, after all, the
most indispensable precondition for a citizen to feed and clothe himself is
that he harbors a skill to depend on. Survival is a very thing that should be
taken into account practically at first, so a school should instruct its stu
dent to be skillful to accustom to the world rather than to teach them some u
nrealistic ideals.)(写完之后觉得这样写很不合适,应该换一例子,对academic的理解
好像有偏差。)
Besides, no shrewd businessman is so ridiculous to ignore the profits and onl
y pay attention to the so-called profound benefits. This sounds unreasonable,
but when weighing in our mind we would recognize clearly that as the bottom
lines are the final destination of business, the deadlines of production, sal
es quotas, profits margins and the like should be considered superiorly. Only
to have an unreachable ideal to the future would not bring the success in th
e business arena since the rules of the game decide that pragmatism would be
a token for profits.
Moreover, in considering the situations in the social and political respects
we can easily realize that a practical behavior is much important than an ide
alistic conception to the style of a nation or a society. Utopia which is dre
amt by Thomas has never come true for the certain reason that although it is
really an appealing model of society but there exists no available path leadi
ng to such world. So when it comes to the fields of society and politics we s
hould remind ourselves to be sensible to make a pragmatic decision so that we
can fulfill it one but not remain the plans as unachievable daydream, which
may jeopardize our present conditions.
In sum, the speaker's assertion can be no more sophisticated in directing us
in the reality, although we can not deny the important function and contribut
ion of the idealistic views that can give us courage and something alike sinc
e the cruel reality calls for pragmatism.
(这个是写完之后翻看到这句名言于是决定写上去的Another ending) AS the doctrine
of C.S. Peirce and William James that the meaning of conceptions is to be so
ught in their practical bearings, that the function of thought is to guide ac
tion, and that truth is preeminently to be tested by the practical consequenc
e of belief, we should place everything on the basis of the reality so that w
e can make progress and fulfill the dreams finally. |
