The history of astrology, fortune-telling, psychic or any other form of paranormal pursuits is as long as the history of human being and even longer than that of science. The speaker claims that such non-mainstream areas of inquiry play an important role in society. In my point of view, I concede some merits of them serving as the complementary part for human's interaction with the nature which could not be well understood by the mainstream science, however, their impression imposed on contemporary life should be monitored prudently to ensure the benign development of human society.

Admittedly, contemporary knowledge acquired at any phase of human history shows incredible weakness or ineptitude in explaining those mysterious natural phenomena, thus comes such non-mainstream area of inquiry. Those areas, for instance, astrology, fortune-telling or psychic, even have longer history than science. No indication of the primitive form of those 'plausible' explanation concerning changes around us, we merely have the clue that such unbelievable interpretation of the nature has accompanied human history or society in order to get ourselves assuaged. People are so feeble on this planet, no matter prehistorically or after our successive launching of the outer space. Astrologists, fortune-tellers just have their way to translate words from the nature, especially for those couldn't be deciphered in a scientific way. Either could the psychic appease people who are just deprived of their family and ignite their aspiration of holding their loving one's hand eternally. Without their help, desperate people could have lost their faith to encounter any difficulty in their way ahead or might be easily grasped into the untelling abysmal suffering afflictions either temporally or psychologically.

Although paranormal pursuits could fill in the blank of unaccomplished area and satisfy human needs, we should not oversight its byproducts of excessive occupying of people's mind which make a person becoming hatred to scientific understanding of the world. Take the psychic contacting with gone people as an example. It could no doubt console people to step out of the morass of heartrendering experience for the hope of meeting again with our loving ones in the specific time, place. While it turns out to be an addiction of mourning or meeting with apparition, this could be absurd and even life threatening. Sorrowed ones at the edge of psychological collapsing would not resist to such temptation and could be misled to endanger their lives only for the purpose of minutes' staying with who had already passed away. There were occasionally the reports concerning about accidental suffocation happened during the meeting of 'meeting with apparition', or even came the news that widows jumping into the pyre for their belief of novarna with their husbands. Indulgence into those pursuits has far more impression than we can predict.

Furthermore, on the social level, over-emphasis on its function of implementing human needs not addressed by mainstream science might bring dispensable suspicion on the latter one and impedes science development. We've already had the experience of medieval bigotry in theology which brought dark periods for embryonic thoughts for science. Neither could genetic studies on human body reach to the new stage if we are still stuck with Gyps' crystal balls. Or couldn't we explain the singularity and other astronomical phenomena, like eclipses, observed by the telescope or naked eyes if we always believe what astrolabes say. It is the unexplainable nature that triggers potential ability endued in our body, even if we consent it as the gift from God, to explore more about this changeable world and make this world better than before.

In sum, non-mainstream areas of inquiry could be the alternative explanation for people to deal with problems we currently have and appease our soul in order to move on. Nevertheless, we shall believe the power of science to solve mysterious phenomena and focus our best to accomplish more development of mainstream understanding of the world.
