你怎么会写这篇,似乎不是上海jj
------题目------ 556words
issue212 If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable.
------正文------
Whether to reach the worthwhile goal by any measures is justifiable? The speaker claims so, however, I disagree with author’s view for two reasons. First, the criteria of deciding whether a goal is worthwhile is to weigh a benefit to attain it against its cost.觉得这个reason和题目没什么关系 Second, to reach a goal, means which are used should stay within the law.
In the first place, the effective way to determine whether the way we use to reach a worthwhile is justifiable or not is to measure the benefit from it against the cost or harm. Consider the goal of the discovery of universe. This project is an expensive plan because every action to discover cost billions dollars at least, which is at the expense of addressing pressing social problems of the day—by establish much more funds to subsidize the poor, by enhancing medical conditions to against disease, such as AIDS. And last year, the incidence of space shuttle Columbia leads people to question the true meaning of discovery. But not only people’s curiosities stemmed from human nature but also long-term goal of contribution to human fate in future win out. On other words, having considered the benefit against the cost at which space discovery has caused, people decide to continue their significant plan which serves to help find a suitable planet that people take as a colony in future. Turn to anther example involving our life. Common sense informs me that leisure time and work are of paradox. In modern society, the pace of life becomes rapid, and as a result, if you want to success, you must work hard, which will also bring out another problem—the decrease in your leisure time that people use to relax themselves and diversify their lives. One who long for accomplishment might value work over leisure time, and on the contrary, one who pays attention to health might value leisure time over work. Thus, it is up to the balance between benefit and cost to decide whether a goal is worthwhile.
In the second place, to pursue a worthwhile goal, means taken should stay within laws. Laws which are legislated by human are to regulate people’s behavior and serve to protect their interests. Attaining a goal which is worthwhile by some illegal measures harms the whole society and disobeys its long-term profit. In order to aptly illustrate this point, let us take a chemical factory for a special example. Focusing on its worthwhile goal to maximize its profit, the factory reduces its cost, which is favorable to factory owners, the employees, the consumers, and so forth. Nevertheless, respecting to its negative way, the employer of this factory may directly let poisonous water used in the process of production to realize its max profit, which will pollute water and harm the health of residents nearby. Such action to reach a worthwhile goal invades people’s interests and violates law as well. Consequently, it is necessary and indispensable to take laws and other’s interests into consideration first when one achieve his worthwhile goal.
To sum up, the speaker begs the question. In the process of pursue a goal, one must not only measure whether it is worthwhile which is determined by weighing the balance between the benefit and its cost, and also take means within laws and do no harm to others’ interests.
