Do you agree or disagree：Technology helps to make people's lives simpler or make people's lives more complicated.

It is an indisputable fact that technology has brought extraordinary change to our live. Nevertheless, people are debating how techology impacts human beings; whether it simplifies the lives or leads it to be more complicated. Granted that some trouble was born from technology such as traffic jam and information abusage, I would like to defense that more efficient and simpler lives we lead are benefits from technology.

To begin with, Internet is a most significant invention which reforms people's life. One crucial convenience is that whenever it is and where ever we are, Internet can help us to communicate with our families, friends and colleagues by instant message. Email, as well as MSN, has displaced written letter as the first tool for people who cannot make face-to-face communication. We are seldom trapped in trouble of going to post office, buying envelope and stamps, waiting for long time with looking forward the response. Furthermore, Internet Shopping promotes life efficiency greatly. Girls can select their favorite dress in on-line shop without being crowded in real mall. For another instance, the gentle man who is working overtime would save lot of time since he can order meal through internet and then the food will be sent to his office.

Let's move focus to development of transportation tools. In ancient times, people has to get somewhere they want by riding a horse or walking which took slow pace and cost much time. According some old Chinese poems, we can know that our ancestors set out in March from north of China and arrived in the south in June. However, only 10 hours are needed from Beijing to Hong Kong by train nowadays. Likewise, automobile and air flight make it possible for people to travel anywhere with coziness and ideal speed. Therefore, we can draw a safe conclusion that it is technology that simplifies our lives with high efficiency.

Finally, developed cook equipments and markets with abundant food materials can support my argument. In past time, people cook food in a complex process, including hunting wild animals as material, cutting wood pieces for fire and cook in poor container for long time. Compared with that, people live in modern society are able to finish cook within half hour. Clean raw materials and gradient are available in supermarket; people just need set the need and then micro-oven is functional to cook in many ways.


As summary, technology is the outcome of people's wisdom which is doomed to serve for us. Human are deserved to enjoy a simpler and comfortable life with the help of modern technology as long as we tame it well.

The lecture describes 3 aspects of advantages of on-line encyclopedias to refute the points in the reading that the communal encyclopedias are less valuable compared with traditional printed version.

Firstly, the professor illustrates that errors exists in on-line encyclopedias as well as the printed ones. No reference books are 100% accurate. However, according to the lecture, the communal encyclopedias are better since the errors could be corrected immediately by internet users. And unfortunately, the mistakes in printed version might be maintained for many years without review and modification.

In addition, the professor states 2 measurements for communal encyclopedias used to fight against illegal manipulation by internet hackers which refute the criticism in reading that the information in on-line encyclopedias is probably tamped malicious and misled the users. On one hand, the formation of some critical information is set as read only to guarantee that it is correct and reliable. On the other hand, specific persons are working to make sure the modification of communal encyclopedia is clear and not with evil motivation.

Finally, the lecture argues that the traditional encyclopedias were authored by group of academic editors, the minority, which failed to reflect the diversity of the world. Nevertheless, the speaker supports the communal ones because it not only keeps the accomplishment of academic experts but can be enriched by the public with expanded scope.

In short, the lecture opposes the negative evaluation to communal encyclopedias in the reading. On the contrary, the professor holds the mind that the on-line encyclopedias owns more strong points
