TOPIC: ARGUMENT79 - The following appeared in a magazine for the trucking industry.

"The Longhaul trucking company was concerned that its annual accident rate (the number of accidents per mile driven) was too high. It granted a significant pay increase to its drivers and increased its training standards. It also put strict limits on the number of hours per week each driver could drive. The following year, its trucks were involved in half the number of accidents as before the changes were implemented. A survey of other trucking companies found that the highest-paid drivers were the least likely to have had an accident. Therefore, trucking companies wishing to reduce their accident rate can do so simply by raising their drivers' pay and limiting the overall number of hours they drive."

In this argument in order to decreased the Longhaul trucking company's annual accident rate, the manager takes following procedures, in creasing its drivers pay, limiting the number of work hours. hence in the next years, these procedures seems worked, the company's annual accident rate do decreased. this argument seems well-presents, but not well-reasoned
First of all, in the following year, this company’s trucks were involved in half the number of accident as before, however, we did not know the whole information about the company, it might be decreasing the total number or trucks, or it might be in the last years driver drive in more complicate and tough trip than this year. it also might be during a year, the drivers take some special train to developed themselves. so, we cannot account these annual accident rate decrease for drivers pay per hour.
In the second place, the author mentions a survey of other trucking companies, and said that the survey figure that the highest-paid drivers were the least likely to have an accident. as my observation, in most times it is just because the best driving technical, the driver can receive the highest pay. The author makes the logical reversed. Moreover, even if the survey is convinced, it also not fit this trucking company during the survey is driving form other trucking companies. the difference of these company is not clear. For instance we do not know the location of these companies, even the formation of their stuff and working structure. Hence we can not use othe company's survey to improve this company's problem
Because of the previous reasons, this argument is not well-reasoned, In order to convinced us, the manager of this company should take more specifics survey such as the change ofdrivers and trucks number during this year. And some other reasons might be infect the annual accident rate, by doing this; the author can make a trustful argument.
