The speaker maintains that video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records because it is accurate and convincing, which I can hardly agree with. Although video camera is accurate and convincing as the speaker claims at certain circumstance, it has its own limits compared with written records.

Admittedly, video camera is more accurate and convincing when redisplaying some picture or scene. For example, video camera can easily show what have happened some time ago precisely, which can never be achieved by written records. To illustrate what have happened, written records have to organize suitable words as well as sentence structure to describe the scene, which costs both time and energy and therefore is extremely inefficient relatively.

However, one cannot just deny the advantage of written records compared with video camera, for video camera cannot be used to record data, as well as other sorts of information concerning with numbers. This disadvantage is manifested in two aspects. First of all, video camera is not good at recording data information. For example, to record some data in an experiment, a scientist will definitely turn to written records. It will be strange and impractical that some scientist uses video camera to record numbers showed in appearance of experiment devices. Also it is not possible that a company records information about its finance by video camera. No company will ever possess pictures full of numbers recording costs and profits of the company. In the second place, video camera is not good at transferring data information too. There is an example aptly illustrate the idea. If a person want to know crime rate of a city, someone else can just tell the person verbally or write a number, the crime rate of the city, in a paper and then hand it to the person. However, how can video camera tell crime rate of the city to the person? Maybe someone can first write the number down to a paper and then shoot it by video camera and then give the person the picture, but in this way written records is applied. According to daily life experience, one may easily come to the conclusion that there is a long distance between written records and video camera as to transferring data information.

In conclusion, although video camera can represent scene or picture vividly and accurately, it is deficient in recording and transferring data information. On the contrary, written records is just good at recording or transferring data information. Therefore, it is groundless to maintain that video camera has become a more important form of documentation.
