Artists product the art work, while crtics makes it perfect and translate it into the plain meanings or ideas which normal people could understand. It is hard to say that the artist who gives society something of lasting value with no help of the critics.

To begin with, it is hard for everyman to understand some art works. There are plethora of reasons, for the artist who create that work with no wish for other’s appreciation, he or she just for self-expression. Or the meaning contained in the work is so deep that it is different for even sensitive people to conprehend. Such as the work of Post Modernism, the artists belonged to this group often produced work with the stream of consciousness instead of something concrete. They sometimes used their body to do the experiments to express their moral value, which were difficult for people to understand without the introduction of background knowledge. So it is critics’ duty to interpret the meaning of these works before us. Sometimes critics exhibit the value artistic works before the world and make them world famous.

Furthermore, the critics sometimes can give us clear direction to usher us to the valuable works among the uncountable art works. The critics use clear view and valid voices put the worthy works before us and reveals their values to us clearly. With the help of the critics, we can better apreciate and conprehend the famous works of Fauvism or Impressionism or realism or Post Modernism. From them, we can enjoy the sculpture work David of Michelangelo and see his influence on painting, sculpture and archtechture beyond his age.

Finally, the remark from the critic can something give the afflatus to the artist to find the defects of his or her works, and lead the remedy or adjustment of the works to prove them. Since critics have more sharp eyes and critical thinking on these work, they are more sentitive to the limitations of the art works and aware of even details of the work. The artist can gain a lot with the sharp comment from the critc who has a broad view on the works.

Admittly, it is the artist who produce the work personally, but without the help of the critics, the valuable work may not be known or accepted by the general people, and cannot give it to the society.

In summary, it is the artist who product the meanful works, and it is the critic who reveals the work before the world and gives them to the society as well as the normal people. Both artists and critics play important roles in forming the lasting works.
