Issue 147 “Tradition  and modernization are incompatible.One must be choose between them”

In a very long history , the delima between tradition and modernaztion has always been discussed  as a lasting vogue.Some people announce that, in each cases , convention and advancement are unmixable .But some others of more foresight  insist that the the tradition is the foundation of the modernization and they need to compromise from each other so as to be harmonic.

On one hand , modernization has always been built on the basic of convention rather than be an air castle.In the areas of science , Newto, the most brilliant physical scientist said my greatness is only because I stand on the shoulders of giants . These words may just be a humility but also express Newton’s emphsis that  the sciences or techeniques enable to advance without the foundation of the conventional  accumulation. Furthermore , this trend would be more obvious  in the areas of arts or social science. A good case in point is renaissence.In the sight of the mid-age, the renaissence is an absolute modernization movement effecting almost every aspects of the society including religion , literature, politics , archetecture and so on. However, humanism ,the core spirite of this culture revolution is inheritted from the age of ancient Greece.

On the other hand , the history is envolving in the lasting conflicts and compromise between tradition and modernization. The urban renovation  in London would be a perfect example. As all known, London rose from a village in the age of Rome.In the lasting devleopment including renaissence, industry revolution and the eletronic modernization ,the conventional modality in the city of london still remains ,but in order to meet the increasing and chaning needs of the people living in it , both protection of convention and urban renewal conceded .Some modern infrastructures are made inside or underground ,such as the wires or pipes of gas , electric or even internet  and the subways ,while some new techniques and materials are widel used in the buildings and constuctions.So London could be demostrated to be both modern and classic harmonically.

Admittedly, it is difficult to achieve the combination, which usually means the hard works by quantities of people and unexpectable cost. So some situation, one side ,convention or mordernization , has to be sacrificed.

In sum , traditions are the steps by which human beings could climbs higher in the way of moredenization.To deny either of them absolutely will slake the paces of our advancement .
