To be an effective leader, a public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards.
I fundamentally agree with the statement that maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards is a must to be an effective leader for a public official. Since ethical and moral merits can help the official to gain the approval of others while moral degeneration will draw much antipathy of other people. But on the other hand, it is not sufficient to be an effective leader without some other qualities.
As an public official, one should contact with many kinds of people with different temper which is really troublesome to handle . Ethical and moral merits of the official are the most powerful weapons to help him or her to get the trust of the people and convince them to cooperate with him to get his work well done which is the most essential for him to be an effective leader. Many effective leaders in history can prove this point. American president Abraham Lincoln is a great leader who is famous for his honesty ,mercy and persistence. People until now are still respectful for his moral merits.
On the contrary, if the public official has some flaws in his morality, bad impression of moral degeneration is always in the mind of the people which is really difficult to clean away. Any little inappropriate deed will cause other people's disgust. People are unwilling to work with the official that they consider unreliable. And it is even hard for the official to get common work done, thus effectiveness is far away from him.
But effective leadership of a public official demands more than moral merits. Basically, the official should have insightful knowledge and strong working capability to deal with the many sorts of tasks . Another important aspect is that the official must have excellent communicate skills . As a leader, the official need to communicate with others to convey his thoughts and policy in order to obtain their understanding and support, and at the same time he can adjust his policy according to their thinking to achieve better effect. Without these qualities it's not likely for an public official to be an effective leader.
In sum, reality informs us that effective leadership of a public official requires adherence to high standards of ethics and morality .Besides, some other qualities are also indispensable.
