In the reading material, the main idea is that the author thinks that the painting is a faint instead of drawing by Rembrandt. In the contrary, the professor in the lecture disagrees with the view in the reading material; she believes that it is Rembrandt himself who draw the painting. Let me put it with more detail.

In my point of view, I think it is the governments' obligation to make their people live better life instead of suffering. If the people of the nation still suffer starvation and coldness, why governments should put money on developing computer technology? However, if some countries have great power like The United States, why can not it develop the high-technology? So I think it all depends on the situation of the nation. Let me put it with more detail.

To begin with, there is no doubt that the most basic needs of people are that there are bread to eat when they are hungry and clothes when they feel cold. For example, in some poor countries in Africa, if the governments put their money on computer technology, people are still in hunger, and then this country will not be stable. Because the computers mean nothing to those poor, they only care about the bread and clothes.

Also, the government must distribute the money rightly; there are some other aspects that need lots of money to promote the situation. For example, the depose of the pollution, I think my nation should put much money in the deposing of the waste, because our environment is worse and worse, I miss the blue sky and lucid river, the sing of the finch and the grove behind my house, but they have gone. In compare with the computer technology, I would rather let the beauty of nature come back.

However, I do not mean that the computer technology is not important. My major is computer science, I know deeply how crucial the computer technology is, and what great change they have taken to our world. We know that the computer technology can propel the development of economic, let more people have the opportunities to work. The whole society will be more stable if most people have work. Furthermore, the development of computer technology represents the power of the nation. Such as the Microsoft Company can promote the reputation of the United States which have numberless information technology company.

In sum, I think the government should take measures to distribute the money well, if the nation has a lot of basic needs, money should be used to solve the most serious problem. However, if you nation have the ability to promote the high technology, the government should not limit the development of the computer technology.

In the reading material, the author gives three explanation about how the Chaco great houses are using. However, the professor in the lector casts doubt on those theories and gives her own explanation. Their points of view are totally different in some aspects as follows.

To begin with, the author of the reading material thinks that the great houses were purely residential, which is like the apartment buildings. However, the professor points out that thousands of settlements of Chaco Canyon lived in the great house so that they can not live separately, so how can they be purely residential? Because of this, the professor believes that the first theory is not convincing.

Also, the Chaco structures were not used to store grain maize according to the analysis of the professor, she finds that there is no evidence to demonstrate the great house have ever stored the maize. Furthermore, the maize containers had not been found in the great house which makes the author's conclusion more unbelievable. Without the support of the storing crops, the great house would not make them very suitable for the purpose either.

Last but not least, the professor holds the belief that the houses were not fit to use as ceremonial centers which contradicts the view of the author in the reading material. Because the exist of lots of building material that make the house is not suitable for some special ceremonies.

In sum, what the professor says are totally different from the main idea in the reading material, they have great disagreements on some aspects such as the living style, the storing of the maize and whether the houses were suitable for special ceremonies.

So what is a true friend, is that friend who bears all your mistakes and let you be degrade gradually without any exhortation? As we all know that, there are no perfect men in this mundane world and all of us may make mistakes. At this time, we need our friends to point out where we are wrong and so we can correct them immediately. If all of our friends dare not point them out or they are not willing to advise you, what a tragedy, none of them can call a true friend. Fortunately I have a true friend called Tony, I remember that when I was a high school student, I was addicted to the online game. I play it day and night and sometimes even escaped from the class in order to play the game. And one time, Tony said to me, boy, you cannot be like this anymore, do you know that how hard your parents earned money to support your study, do you think you are a good son, if you still be like this, I do not want to be your friend any more. Eventually, I abjured the online game and did not play it any more.


Until today I still appreciate Tony very much, without him, I think maybe I can not have the opportunity to go to a university if I still play that online game. If Tony dared not exhort me, I will not treasure our friendship like now. In the lecture, the professor shows us three distinct points to illustrate her standpoint that the painting Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet is a work by Rembrandt on basis of a recent thorough examination, which apparently rebuts what is stated in the passage.

First of all, it is said in the listening that the fur collar wasn't part of the original painting based on a further x-ray examination . Someone else added it onto the top of the painting after about 100 years probably to increase its value by making the lady looks more formal . The reading, on the contrary, assumes that the fur collar belongs to the original painting and the inconsistency between the luxurious fur collar and the white linen cap proves that it's not a work by Rembrandt.

Furthermore, another point that the professor uses to cast doubt on the reading is that the assumed error about light and shadow was clarified by removing the fur collar. The professor mentions after removal of the fur collar, a scarf  was found around the woman's neck, which could reflect rather than absorb light, thus illuminating the  woman's face. The passage, however, mentions it could not be a Rembrandt because of the naive error about light and shadow makes this painting.

Finally, the lecturer points out that thorough examination reveals  the original painting was made on a whole panel with several pieces  of wood on sides and top to make it much more spectacular and beautiful . Also, the wood of this painting is from the same tree with that of another painting of Rembrandt, his self-portrait with a hat.

In conclusion, the lecturer makes the point that the painting is actually a Rembrandt.
