To begin with, the lecture challenges the prediction of company profits increase. With the employees working less hours per week, hence more people on the payroll, due to the relatively fixed trainning cost and medical benefit that has to be spent on each emplyee, the company would probably have to pay more dollars on labor cost.

As it comes to unemployment rates, the lecture argues it will unfortunately not be reduced in the way the reading suggests. In order to avoid extra costs on labor, the companys will push the existing employees to work overtime, or finish equal amount of work in less time. Consequantely, no more job possitions will be created.

In addition, the expectation of promoting individual workers' life quality is also denied by the speaker, based on the reason that those who take this new option will have more chance than others to be layed off, and be less likely to step forward in their career.
