12.8 printed book have had greater effects on society than television has？
The recent decades have witnessed the development of the technology which has a great influence on society, especially the television. And now there is a heated debate about the efffects that television and printed book have brought us. Some people consider that printed book have had more positive impacts on community. While, others hold the opposite opinion. As far as I concern, I totally agree with the first opinion. In the following passages I will use specific reasons to introduce my point of view.

First of all, the printed book has a much longer history than television and it has profound effects on the develpoment of human race. We can not deny that printed book has made a great contribution to the progress of our human beings since it was invited thousands of years ago. It was the printed book that recorded the history and the intellectual achievements of our human beings. Needless to say, without the printed book we may have little chance to learn from our ancestors and the development pace of our socienty would be not so rapid. Even now we can still see students using text books to enlarge their knowledge in schools. That’s a good example to expound the significance of the printed book.

In addition, for individuals it is more convenient and enjoyable to take a printed book. If we want to read a book we just need to open it and we can take the book wherever we go. However, we can not get such a convenience when we watch television. When I am free I like to read books than watching television. I usually take a book with me and when I am free I can take out it and enjoy reading it. On the other hand, I like to read books because I can smell the odor of the books and touch the soft paper. I can take my favorite books and touch them with my fingers as my most valuable treasure. And the book shelf in my study room makes me feel rich. But we can not get such a kind of feeling when we sit in front of televison. I believe many people have the same feeling as me.

Take all the factors into account, we can safely draw the conclusion that printed book have had greater effects on society than television has. We human beings use books to record the civilization and individuals also get joy from reading books. So I am perfectly agree with the first saying.
