Issue 40
This issue is concerned about the relationship between the interests of scholars and the whole society. We are talking about whether the the scholars and researchers should pursue their own interests rather than work to contribute to the larger society. Of course it is perfect if they can work on the need of the society while satisfying
their own interests, but if it is not the case, I am prone to accept the opinion that we focus on how the society can benefit from their work.

Admittedly, in the times of personalization, the interests of the academic specialists should get full respect. With high intelligence and strong academic background, they deeply understand what they are most interested in and in which areas their talents and knowledge could be best applied. As the interests are the greatest motivation, only based on the interests can the scholars and researchers make out great discoveries and innovations.

But the needs of the society, rather than the interests of individuals, should be placed in the first place, as the socialization requires that everyone has to contribute to the society while getting something from it. Today the research in every realm calls for human and material resources. However, Economics tells us that the resource of the society is scare, which means that the funding and resource should be applied in the areas in need. It is unrealistic and ruthless for the whole society to approve some scientists’ idiosyncratic and useless research work, while millions of people are struggle against hungry and disease. From this perspective, only those research work focus on solving the tough social problems should be encouraged.

Furthermore, the scocial moral criteria requires that the research based on some evil or antihuman interests cannot be accepted. In spite of the kind and just nature of most academics, there are still someone are interested in exploring something going beyond the moral standard. The famous film ‘The sixth day’ is one example, in this film some scientist, with distorted spirit, are keen on some terrible actions to destory the human.

In sum, scholars and researchers should still be concerned with whether their work contributes to the whole sociey.

(这里的interests有歧义,是利益的意思吗?但这里讨论的是scholar的兴趣,要解释成兴趣,society又行不通)We are talking aboutwhether the scholars and researchers should pursue their own interests ratherthan work to contribute to the larger society. Of course it is perfect if theycan work on the need of the society while satisfying their own interests, butif it is not the case, I am prone to accept the opinion that we focus on how (much) the society can benefit fromtheir work.

Admittedly, in the times of personalization, theinterests of the academic specialists should get full respect. With highintelligence and strong academic background, they deeply understand what theyare most interested in and
to which areas theirtalents and knowledge could be best applied. As the interests are the greatestmotivation, only based on the interests can the scholars and researchers makeout great discoveries and innovations.
But the needs of the society, rather than theinterests of individuals, should be placed in the first place, as thesocialization requires that everyone has to contribute to the society whilegetting something from it. Today the research in every realm calls for humanand material resources. However, Economics tells us that the resource of thesociety is
scare(scarce), which means that thefunding and rzesource should be applied in the areas in need. It is unrealisticand ruthless for the whole society to approve some scientists’ idiosyncraticand useless research work, while millions of people are struggle against hungryand disease. From this perspective, only those research work focus on solvingthe tough social problems should be encouraged.

Furthermore, the scocial
socialmoral criteria requires that the research based on someevil or antihuman interests cannot be accepted.(这句不太通啊,否定应该放在require前面,改成some research based on evil or antihumaninterests cannot be accepted by the social moral criteria. 会好些 In spite of the kindand just(用的不是很恰当) nature of most academics, there are still someone(改成some are (who are) interested inexploring something going beyond the moral standard. The famous film ‘The sixthday’ is one example, in this film some scientist(scientists), with distorted spirit, are keenon some terrible actions to destroy(destroy) the human.
In sum, scholars and researchers shouldstill be concerned with whether their work contributes to the whole sociey.still在这里用的不太好,去掉后,力度更强些,结尾有些仓促,可以总结一下文中的观点,强调researchers 应该更concern theircontributions to the society.这样字数就不会过少了)
