"An innovative treatment has come to our attention that promises to significantly reduce absenteeism in our schools and workplaces. A study reports that in nearby East Meria, where fish consumption is very high, people visit the doctor only once or twice per year for the treatment of colds. Clearly, eating a substantial amount of fish can prevent colds. Since colds are the reason most frequently given for absences from school and work, we recommend the daily use of Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, as a good way to prevent colds and lower absenteeism."

In this memo, the author recommends the daily use of Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, as a good way to prevent colds and lower absenteeism. To support his point view, he refers a study which shows that people in East Meria, where fish consumption is very high, visit the doctor only once or twice per year for the treatment of colds. He also mentions that colds are the reason frequently given for absences from school and work. At first sight the argument seems to be logical, but further reflection show that these problematic evidences prevent it from invulnerable.

The first flaw involve in the survey of people in East Meria. The times of visiting doctor for treatment of colds cannot reflect of real times of getting colds. Since many people prefer taking some pills, drinking enough water and enjoying a good sleep to spending time and money visiting doctors.
Even if people there indeed seldom get colds, the author fails to provide evidences showing that the high consumption of fish lead to this result. It is entirely possible that the climate in East Meria is warm and people dong more exercise.

Another flaw of the argument is the hasty assumption that Ichthaid is helpful to prevent colds and lower absenteeism. As the author mentioned, Ichthaid is a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil. Unfortunately, no information shows that Ichthaid is the very nutritional which can prevent colds and lower absenteeism, even the fish oil. And the author also proposes this nutrition without considering the side-effect of Ichthaid.

Last but not the least; the author neglects the possibility that the reason of getting colds is just an excuse for absences from school and work. As we all know that colds are good reasons for absences, and probably be tolerated and forgiven. Even if Ichthaid indeed prevent people from getting colds, people may find other excuses when need to absent from school and work. If so, the suggest of lowering absenteeism of is unwarranted and useless.

In summary, to make his suggestion more persuading, the author needs to strengthen his argument. He need to ensure that whether people in nearby East Meria seldom get colds and clear the root reason if so. He must provide a scientific evidence to show that Ichthaid is indeed effective in preventing colds and the potential side-effects as well. Moreover, the author is also expected to survey whether they get cold when they ask for a leaving with the reason of having a cold.

In any companies, organizations and countries aspiring to growth and continual improvement, the leaders always play the crucial parts. Under the administration of an excellent leader, a group can work effectively and corporately, or it may move toward the opposite direction. Then we would naturally ask that what essential quality an excellent leader should have: the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives or the ability to take popular opinion into account.

For anyone, including a leader, who wants to achieve his goals, he basically should be equipped with the quality of insisting on particular principles and objectives. Without a strong will and executive capability, it is hard for a leader to make a tough decision and persuade his subordinates to executively it, especially when the decision is against their wishes. If a leader is quickly and easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion, his group will finally be confused about the principles and objectives. As a leader, he must understand that he can satisfy all his subordinates in seldom circumstances, and the sacrifice of the minority is a necessity. Few measures and decision could be executed without any resistance, an excellent leaders always knows what to do that maybe one of reasons why they becomes different. For instance, President Roosevelt, one of the greatest American Presidents, announced that he would prosecute J.P. Morgan's Northern Securities Company for violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1902 and insisted on antitrust all his life.

Meanwhile, if a leader is too stubborn to accept different views, he won't be a great leader absolutely. Even though leaders are always at the top of the manage system, and hereby receive much more information and think deeply. However, this doesn't mean that all their decision is agreeable. If a leader cannot stand any different opinions or change his decision when it is worthy to do so, he is surely to face a failure.

Considering all above, we can easily recognize that a good leader is the one who can hear and adopt different views, make the best decision under certain circumstance and insist on executing his decision with a strong will. Besides, to be a good leader, he also need many other qualities, such as lead by example, humility, appreciate his subordinates and create a positive atmosphere.

In summary, a leader is absolutely the one who remains consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Besides, we also expect him to listen to others and adopt different views. However, only these cannot make a good leader, many other additional qualities are also required to be a good leader as mentioned above.
