The speaker asserts that we can tell a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people since the attitudes and interests of individual could be revealed by their look dress and act. I fundamentally agree with the author for sometimes our behavior could be a aspect to understand the entire society. However, it is still far from knowing a society as a whole.

People always dress as the way the like, for instance, a man who always wear sport shoes may have a interest in exercises or because the sports shoes make him feel comfortable. In either of the case, his habit reflect the interests of and attitudes toward life. In another word, our attitudes and interests definitely have a great influence on our daily life. Therefore, the way we look, dress, and act as we behavior, if it is not a deliberately camouflage, can reveal our interests and attitudes.

When we turn to the behavior of people, it is not hard to find out, although it differs from each other, it is coherent with the values and ideas of the society to some extent. For example, the presidential syatem and the whole electoral procedure of America which we get to know from the look, dress and act of candidates and many other people involved show that the liberty plays a significant role in this society's development. Everyone would like to obey the simple rule that all of them are born equal and on one have the authority to deprive their civil rights without legal permission. Therefore, people's behavior could reflects the values and ideas of society to a certain extent.

However, basically, the people consist the whole society vary remarkably, ranging from higher educational to those may pose a threat to human like terrorists. When we want to understand the ideas and values of a society, which group of people we should turn to observe? The one that takes up the dominant population of the large society, the people whose behavior against the tendency of the development of human beings, or all of them? Let alone even the people of the similar group could have different attitudes and interests. From my perspective, it is a really complicated and comprehensive problem and we must analyse it from various aspects. The people, which make up the whole society, can merely be considered a part of the society. Furthermore, the ideas and values of a society cannot be determined only by the the people's interests and attitudes. Because the essence of a society, including the values, ideas, the intrinsic motivation for its vitality, associates with the society's developing history, culture, and so forth. Merely based on the interests and attitudes of the varied collection of individual is far from satisfactory.

In conclusion, the ideas and values of a society cannot be the simple combination of the interests and attitudes of all the people. So as to fully understand it, we should observe and appreciate other indispensable elements.

总结：很没思路的一篇文章，不知道一个社会的价值观到底会由哪些具体的东西决定，所以只是在说光有people是不够的，但不知道该说还要有什么，写了也只是泛泛，无法论述清楚。看了一些范文，大多把重心放在了前面，就是一个人的interests和attitudes能不能从行为衣着上体现，不能就不能体现社会的价值观了，但我觉得一个人的眼神衣着可能不能体现一个人的兴趣态度，但行为这东西就包括很多了，什么处事方式啊，思维方式啊都可以从行为上得到体现（看来第一主段还可以扩充下。。明天再改。。）并且我认为后面是重点，即怎么去决定一个社会的价值观。欢迎讨论~~~
