TOPIC: ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."
这种写法不是一边倒的,对于这题有点没底,不知大家怎么看
As for me ,I 'd rather take one side and make my point clearly, what's more ,it is always easy for me to achive sth if I stay focus, even go to extreme.
but just my personal idea anyway.
Should the students be skeptical to whatever they study or learn? Some people claim so, while others hold the opposite attitude for the reason that excessive skepticism may lead to agnosticism, which impedes students from learning more knowledge. As far as I'm concerned, though I concede that too much skepticism, sometimes, do cause negative effect to students' study; however, it is still recommended that students should hold a proper skeptical attitude in their studying and learning.
I highly doubt that "agnosticism" is appropriate usage here.
In the first place, I admit that, under some circumstances, excessive skepticism is not helpful but in fact harmful to the study. When a person became over skeptical towards everything, he may turn to be an agnostic, who perceives the truth of everything is unknowable. As long as the modern science is always based upon some self-demonstrating assumptions, agnostics will question the authenticity of these assumptions and refuse to accept them, let alone the theories deduced from them. Take Mathematics as a specific example, if one refuse to accept one and one is two, he will not accept the calculation of multiply or divide. Under such circumstances, excess skepticism do impedes students from advanced study.
beside this ficticious example ,can you illustrate your point with another specific example? I think that will be better
However, what mentioned above is extreme case; in fact, proper skepticism plays vital role in our study and learns, and it has contributed a lot in the progress of human kinds.
First of all, skepticism promotes students' ability of query and critical thinking, which are often regarded as the most important learning skills. According to a famous scientist, scientific theories are conceived to be tested and falsified. Thus, if the students fail to master the ability to be skeptical and critical, they will not understand the truth of science and make progress in their studying fields. Take economics study more example, the prevailing neo-classical economics theories are based on the basic assumption that people are rational and self-interest. Nevertheless, in advanced studies, some economists found that in many cases, people's behavior are irrational and not self-interest but generous, they begin to question about the assumptions of neo-classical economics theories. After repeatedly observation and testify, they confirmed their initial conjecture and then corporate their new ideas into the previous theory to set up a newly branch of economics- behavior and experimental economics, which enjoys more and more in the academic field. (if the judge no nothing about economics , it is probablely a little hard for he/she to understand ,why not choose an interesting and vivid example? )This example enlightens us that, skepticism intricate people to surpass their predecessors and make significant progresses. As a result, it is naturally to encourage students to hold a skeptical attitude to what they learned.
Beside, taking a skeptical attitude also helps students be independent and tell fake from genuine. In case that we are living in an era of booming information, it is both important and necessary for the students to think independently, being not easily affected by the outside world. Also, it is required that they should distinguish the genuine of the information, absorbing the ones that are useful to them. Under such circumstances, skepticism comes to be emphasized in students’ education once again.
(if you begin with the structure like "first of all", it is better to follow the procedure and give the reader"second",otherwise ,we will be a little disappointment , becasue we are waiting for that to come ,but you just rash to the end.)
In conclusion, though excessive skepticism may lead to agnosticism, which causes negative effect to students’ study, an appropriate skepticism is highly recommended to the students. After all, skepticism makes individual to be independent and creative, hence enables them to make brilliant progress.
=============================================================
so far so good ,but I believe you can do better
the begining and ending are good ,but I still doubt about"agnosticism" is a wise choise here.
The whole structure of main body is not quite clear.
I do suggest to use some other example to make the contant more convincing.
That's all ,it is my pleasure to read your work~~~ carry on!!! |
