博士獎學金 六成內地生



研究資助局昨日公布，共115名本地及海外學生獲博士研究生獎學金，最快於今年9月於香港7間大學入讀研究院課程。獲批學生當中，本地生佔不足1成、而內地學生佔6成，其餘則來自東南亞及歐洲等國家。

為推動本港於國際的學術水平及成為學術樞紐，政府撥出400個學額推行博士研究生獎學金計劃，以吸引更多海外及本地人才於香港的大學進行研究。得獎學生將獲發為期3年、每月2萬元的生活津貼，以及最多1萬元參加海外會議的津貼。

計劃首年共收到近3,000份來自100個國家及地區的申請，本地大學提名了300多人，再由海外及本地學者進行遴選，最後共有148名學生合乎批核資格，當中115人回覆接受資助，當中香港學生佔10人、內地生佔71人，其他國家如馬來西亞、印度及荷蘭等，各有1至2名學生獲批。

大部分申請人選擇工程學及自然科學等課程。本地的7間大學中，最多學生選擇入讀科技大學研究院，其次為中文大學。

研資局主席錢大康(圖)表示，滿意申請及獲批獎學金人數，指人數較預期為多。對於有6成獲批學生來自內地，錢表示，學生的國籍並非審批考慮因素，內地學生成績普遍比較優秀，亦較海外學生認識此計劃。

內地學生成績普遍優秀

錢大康稱：「 當中有3成學生來自海外，使香港的研究課程更國際化。」他表示，有海外學生選擇來港進行研究，是看準內地市場，認為來港有助他們往內地就業，但亦有南亞地區的學生擔心，未能適應香港的生活文化。

當局去年往南亞地區宣傳計劃，向海外學生介紹本港的大學；今年將拓展至歐洲，以吸引不同國家及地區的精英來港。

對於科大成為世界各地頂尖大學生，選擇在香港攻讀博士學位的首選大學，科技大學校長陳繁昌表示非常興奮和鼓舞。作為一所具備世界級教授和設施的研究型大學，歡迎更多世界級博士生加入，在科技研究的領域作出貢獻。

Graduates from the mainland dominated the inaugural set of fellows selected for the first Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.

Seventy-one applicants - or 62 percent out of 115 who accepted the fellowships after a series of evaluations - are mainlanders, the Research Grants Council said yesterday.

A total of 2,996 students applied for the fellowship, which involves a monthly grant of HK$20,000 and a HK$10,000 yearly transportation allowance. The scheme was launched last September.

Seven universities participating in the scheme then nominated 370 from the applicants pool. They were further shortlisted to 148 after being evaluated by two selection panels.

Of the 115 who accepted the offer, 10 are from Hong Kong.

About one third will study engineering, while 27 percent will study physical sciences and 16 percent biology and medicine.

Research Grants Council chairman Ronald Chin said the scheme is off to a good start to expand the source of PhD students.

He hopes that, in the near future, it will be recognized as among the top scholarship schemes.

However, Chin said some applicants did not accept the offer and shifted to other universities overseas because Hong Kong institutions are "relatively less attractive."

Education Convergence chairman Alan Chow Ping-yan said local universities still lack international vision.

"Despite three universities ranking among the top 50 in the world, some overseas students would not put Hong Kong as their first priority due to its lack of international vision," Chow said.

He urged the government and the universities to do more to improve their international reputation. According to the University Grants Committee, about 4,000 candidates applied for PhD courses in 2008-09 academic year, with 1,200 locals and 2,500 from the mainland.

我比较关注的是工程类的

感觉目前HKUST工程类在内地的认可度依然还是很高的，生源也好，不过从HKPF看貌似集中在CS/CIVIL ENG./E（C）E

但是港、中、科的工程类读出来的差别究竟有多大？不太清楚

嗯。。。反正知道HKUST PHD的过程是非常PUSH的。。。

突然想起之前某位筒子说内地学生想申请到HKPFS的可能性基本为零，因为这个SHCHEME是为外国人准备的。

　　In fact. if you want to be top in the class, the competition in CU and HKU is not less than in HKUST.
I must agree that HKUST is very strong in research aspect and is a new rising star
从香港社会认知度上，文化底蕴上，港大和中文在香港有着不可撼动的地位，但是但是在全世界范围内，不得不说科大占据有绝对的优势。或许考虑自己今后目标在哪里的时候可以借鉴一下。

这句话放在UST建校初期确实比较符合现实，当时UST的faculty确实无比强大，可惜后来很多牛人走掉了（很多香港local惯性地觉得HKU,CU比较牛逼，很多好学生都去了这两间学校，而香港的administration又很多是HKU,CU毕业的）。
当然现在UST的实力依然很强，不过已不如当初。

这句话放在UST建校初期确实比较符合现实，当时UST的faculty确实无比强大，可惜后来很多牛人走掉了（很多香港local惯性地觉得HKU,CU比较牛逼，很多好学生都去了这两间学校，而香港的administration又很多是HKU,CU毕 ...

香港現在各院校的院長、系主任當中，近十位以前都是科大的老師。HKU有一位系主任當年在科大做了一年的Assistant Prof.，第二年馬上獲HKU聘為full Prof.兼系主任……

單論研究水平，科大在人文及社會科學的排名也是世界領前的，但科大沒有人文及社會科學的本科。
