Do you know ××××
When asked such question, maybe you would smile politely and say "I don't know, maybe he is not so famous." But when I tell you he is the art critic to review Van Gogh's painting, what's your reaction?
That's right! Such is our normal perception about critics. We naturally attribute them to a lower rank than artisits, no to mention their values to the greatness of art. It is generally accepted that artists always possess miracle to express their thoughts irrespective of time and space, whereas critics, with their snobbish and sarcastic stance, can only contribute litte value to society. Well, this claim has certain merit on the surface, after all, critics' contributions would be hardly noticed if oridinary people would not be reminded of the origins of appreciation skills. Artisit himself do not publish analysis on his own piece of work, but critics do.  Actually, both of artist and critic offer the lasting value to society, but in a quite different way.

The grand work of art is synthesis and composition,which lies in the ideas and feelings of artist. When inspired by a certain intellectual and spiritual atomosphere, by an order of ideas, artist would splashly present them in the most effective and attractive combinations. These form of creativity requires for 2 fundamental components: the power of man and the power of atomosphere. Artists can only be creative when certain atomosphere ignites them. If it were not so, ×××××  would had finished " The Moveable Feast" in America rather than France. If ××××  were not one of the students who protested against the tyranny of Chinese Communist party in 1989, his painting "Execution"would had not received grand welcome at Sotheby's. In combining the color, composition, subject, and theme, artists reach their ultimate goal of expressing their feelings and ideas. Hence, artists at some level reveal ideas and spirit of certain society, and their grand pieces would allows us to experiece other modes of being. In this way, value can transcendent and become eternal.

Compared with art, the work of critique is analysis and discovery and even somtimes with mallicious remarks. Critics seems to be a disposable component like oxygen, which we take it for granted but we can't live without it.In its very purpose, criticism obeys an instinct in trying to know the best that is known and thought in the world, irrespective of practice, politice and everything of the kind. By always keeping aloof from "practical viewing of things", critics employ history, psychology, theology, philosophy, art and every possible approach to judge their subjects and think critically. Without Critic's analysis about ××××'s personal life and interpretation of colors, one can hardly realize that Sun flower is emblematic of Van Gogh's life. Thanks to the help of critics, we now understand vibrant colors in his painting is to express his own emotions. Bright yellows of the full bloom to arid browns of wilting and death can highly condense his life’s motto: “Once alive, he lives.”

When it comes to literature, the role of critics would be more imporant, since there are more thought-blinds than color-blinds. Critiques may shed light on some hard-to-chew novels. ××××, as the critics to ××××, has been a very prominent figure in the realm of ×××× study. He highlights the essense of his drama is about life, in its various scenarios, love and hatred, the hope and fears. He points out the excellence of drama is the representation of life, and is therefore eternal until the extinction of human life. Through samuel's interpretation, ××××'s drama becomes much more appealing, thus the value of critique is as important as drama itself.

Not only critics can interprete the meaning of arts, but also, more importantly, critics may challenge artists' works on the basis of deeper invesigation and new approaches to evaluate artists. The burgeoning of Literature Criticism has given rise to a new method of criticizm at that age. Critics may apply manucripts and letters of artisits to discovery new thought or characters of artists. What critics had discoveried from piles of ×××××'s  manucripts and letters has subverted traditional perception about this great writer. Actually, he is not motifs but rather literate and complex. Document and subsequent critiques challege our former idea and belief, and critique may ever challege our thoughts and leave its lasting value to futuer generation.

Hence,both artist and critic have the belief of possibilities, it is their belif in infinity that would have a lasting value.
