Argument209 【酒香作文组】ice 第2次作文
Argument-209 The following recommendation was made by the Human Resources Manager to the board of directors of the Fancy Toy Company.
"①In the last three quarters of this year, under the leadership of our president, Pat Salvo, our profits have fallen considerably.
②Thus, we should ask for her resignation in return for a generous severance package. ③In Pat's place, we should appoint Rosa Winnings.
④Rosa is currently president of Starlight Jewelry, a company whose profits have increased dramatically over the past several years. ⑤Although we will have to pay Rosa twice the salary that Pat has been receiving, it will be well worth it because we can soon expect our profits to increase considerably."

The Human Resources Manager recommends that the Fancy Toy Company should appoint Roas Winnings to replace Pat Salvo as president of the company. To support this recommendation, the manager points out that the company’s profits have fallen under the leadership of Pat, while the Starlight Jewelry company’s profits have increased under the leadership of Rosa. This recommendation is problematic in several aspects.
The analogy between the Fancy Toy Company and the Starlight Jewelry Company is unfair, because what sold by the two companies are totally different, and no matter their clients or competitors are also not the same. Perhaps most women have changed their habits in the aspect of spending money. They prefered to buy clothes rather than jewlery several years ago. Now this situation turns over, and profits of all jewelry companies may have increased dramatically over the past several years. If so, Rosa have done little about it. And as to the toy company, the possible reason for its falling profits is that there have been more competitors in the last three quarters of this year. Maybe Pat has done well enough in the competitions to avoid a potential worse result. Therefore, without accounting for differences between the jewelry company and the toy company, the manager connot convince me that Rosa is more competent than Pat to lead the Fancy Toy Company.
And it is irrelevant to compare the toy company’s profits with he jewlery company’s. According to the manager, the toy company’s profits have fallen considerably in the last three quarters of this year. It can only present that this company’s profits are less in the last three quarters of this year than before. It even cannot assert that the toy company has been in deficit in the last three quarters of this year. Perhaps under the leadership of Pat, the Fancy Toy Company has an outstanding achievement before. And just because the then profits were too notable, a little decreasing fluctuation seems considerable now. And how about the Starlight Jewlery Company? Maybe its profits were very low several years ago, a little increase of the profits then seems dramatical. In addition, the time—one refering to three quarters of this year, and another refering to several years—is not proper when comparing the two companies’ profits. So, without an all-around comparison showing the similarities between the Fancy Toy Company’s profits and the Starlight Jewlery Company’s profits, the manager connot convince me effectively.
In conclusion, the manager's recommendation is not well supported. To strengthen it the manager must provide clear evidence that the Fancy Toy Company’s profits have in fact been decreasing since Pat Salvo appointed as the president. |
