I concede that the behavior and appearance of people, to some extend, can reveal their attitudes and interests ,and even the values  of a society. However this is not either the sole or decisive factor to fully understand the true ideas of people in a society.
   Admittedly, we can more or less recognize the value system and society' tendency by the way people look and behave. Examples from the changes since the china's reform and opening up which has largely helped chinese people navigate through hard times and toward prosperity and rejuvenation, intensely serve to illustrate the point .Before the reform ,when you walk through the streets in china ,you may be surprised at the people's dressing style, because nearly all people in streets are wearing the same sort of clothes-chinese tunic suit, highly adored by the present chairman .At that time ,people's choosing clothes exactly shows their personality cult. On the contrary, since 1978the reform has  brought a fresh vitality to people's tedious and uniform lifestyle and the thought. As a result, the phenomenon discussed above has been eliminated and people would rather choose clothes depending on their own interest than the political leaders'.
  Although, it must be admitted that the acting role of the appearance and behavior on the knowing of a society, close examination couldn't bear out the speaker's assertion .On one hand ,on one can consistently maintain that he can accurately tell the attitudes and interests of a person when it comes to the objectives such as rules and custom. For instance ,as one company generally rules their employees to take the uniforms, it is impossible for us to recognize their interests by the mere glance of their clothes. The only way to have a full knowledge of one's attitudes and interests is to communicate heart by heart.
  On the other hand, even if you can easily know one's attitudes by how he looks and behaves ,it not necessarily means that the society's value system will be revealed, considering the other aspects helping us learn more about it. Take the books for example, when books about finance and economics are popular among a country ,it may indicate that people in the society tend to seek fortune and admire material success  while if people have a tendency  to read books concerning culture and history ,there is maybe a growing tendency that people pay a considerable attention on their personal improving .In short , different books represent different value system so we can also be familiar with a society by books.
  Generally, from what has been discussed above , we could safely draw the conclusion that not only the appearance but also the other aspects such as books can make a contribution to the understanding of a society's value system. we should also see a society in all different dimensions when we are trying to explore the people's value system.
