It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

I totally agree with the speaker on the assertion that through formal education can a culture try to perpetuate those ideas it favors and discredit those ideas it fears. In my point of view, it tells a truth about the formal education.

Firstly, it has been a controversial issue that what formal education means to a culture. And some of us cannot make sure whether formal education is important to a culture, whether such education can perpetuate those ideas a culture favors. Numerous events prove that formal education serves to fulfill this target. Today, more and more universities turn up, and most of them get great government funding.
With the development of technology, much high technology come up in campus, many advanced equipments are applied by famous laboratories which stay in eminent universities. All of this shows us how much attention our government put on their formal education. As Confucius, a profound thinker,  ever said, "I come this world to show all of you the ideas, tell you what is right or wrong. At first, all of us have to accept education formal."

Secondly, to some extent, through formal education can a culture discredit those ideas it fears. Comment sense tells us that all cultures have something that it favors, also have something that it fears. As a integrate culture, it must have some rules no body can break, and also there are some areas it cannot allow to pass through. For those human beings living in a certain culture, they have to know what they have to fear and what they have to follow. If they do something far away from the rules, some banes would come up. According to this, it is vital for a society to formally teach all of his citizens what they have to discredit and avoid. Educated peoples not only to help their culture to perpetuate the ideas all of them favor, but also to discredit the converse ideas.

Admittedly, nowadays, everything has the same chance to happen. Good things stay with evil things, right things stay with wrong things. In today's society non-formal educations are here and there. Such educations sometimes help peoples get the right ideas, but often go different ways with formal education. Formal education of course do good to its culture, but non-formal education always do harm to it. Today's education is interrupted by non-formal education seriously. Sometimes such situations mislead the people. And persons would not know the truth, and would not know clearly what they should discredit.

To sum up, I hope it has been shown that only through formal education can a culture perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears. Formal education play a critical importance in our society and our culture. Without formal education, our culture cannot pass generations by generations, without formal education, our will never know the wisdom of our ancestors.

我的观点是否定，第一，formal education 的目的不是给大家洗脑，而是培养大家的独立思考问题的能力；第二，一种文化的发展是不能只保护自己favor的ideas，tolerance for other cultures and take in their good ideas or value system is critical.我主要是围绕toterance 来讲的，就是不知道是不是有点跑题，各位觉得呢？
