题目:All students should be required to take courses in the science, even if they have no interest in science.
----------------------------------------------
Should all students be required to take science courses, even if they have no such interests? In my view, learning science can help one build up a complete knowledge system, which is helpful to both science and art students. However it might be difficult to oblige one to study science if he has no interest in it.
It seems tempting to agree with the speaker on the basis that science courses can help students better understand the world. (模板式开头??好像好几篇都是这样的么。限时的吧,这样也好,我今天写的时候就是开头想太多超时了)While it is common sense that science students should take such courses, we need to understand that even art students should do so. As the introductory to nature, science is the key to perception of the world. Without knowledge of science, artists could easily make mistakes, distort the outcome of his observation, and meet difficulty in his creation work. Instrument players would not understand how and why the sound produced by him is undesirable, thus unable to improve his skills of performance. News reporters would not know how to judge the validity of news, especially when it involves an understanding of science. Administrators in the government would not understand a project, therefore feeling it tough to decide the choice of funding. Anyone in the modern world should understand science, otherwise he could not live and work comfortably, properly and efficiently.(有个问题,仅仅提到是introduction to nature是不够的,和后面的例子不符呀,后面的例子和nature有关吗?要么改例子,要不把Topic sentence改一下)
However, we should not over-emphasize on the benefits of science, and ignore the personal interests of each student. Although understanding science could greatly help us in our daily life, we need to know that such courses require deep thinking and effort. As a result, it is futile to oblige one to study science, especially the advanced courses, when he does not have much interest in it, because personal interest is the most effective incentive for learning. In that case, it would merely be a waste of time. From the psychologist explanation, if one is taught a subject which suits his interest, he would learn actively; on the contrary, if one is forced to study a course beyond his interest, he would learn passively. A recent national survey shows that 79% of the students in middle school could do well in the subjects they like, while only 23% of them could have good performance in the subjects they dislike. (居然还用到了survey, 强呀!):lolTherefore, we should also be concerned with personal interests.
On balance, what is the best solution for students, if we take both of the above factors into consideration? In my observation, the most helpful part of knowledge in science is the courses taught in middle school, in that such courses primarily deal with common sense and provides explanations for phenomenon in our daily life. Therefore, it is generally enough for our interaction and association with the society. At the same time, the advanced science subjects taught in colleges and graduate schools are less useful (加一个对一般人来说吧)since these courses are deeper understandings of the nature, and are not frequently applicable in our daily life. A cashier would not need to master calculus to approach his work. A driver would not need to understand relative theory to properly drive a car. A policeman would not need to absorb the knowledge of classical mechanics to shoot his gun. In addition, such courses require extensive effort and time to study, which would not be economical for ordinary people to master.
In the final analysis, the speaker's assertion is partly true. Science courses are very helpful to everyone in the modern world. Yet we should take personal interest into consideration. In addition, we need to control the extent of learning science to be most economical: Advanced subjects are not recommended for people in the blue-collar class.
不错,最近看你的文章已经觉得错误越来越少了,呵呵!不过期待下一篇的开头会更有个人风格哟!
