185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
1 丑闻利于发现问题和解决问题
2丑闻利于完善规定,防止再犯
3丑闻也有坏处,如恶意炒作,分散人们注意力
(先看了一眼提纲,思路不错)I concede that some scandals, including those in politics, academia, economy and other areas, can be useful in that they focus our attention on the problems we have overlooked before. However, others may do harm to people’s lives, more or less.
It is true that scandals remind individuals of the problems they have ever overlooked or not realized. Scandals are publisized incidents that lead to disgrace or offend the moral standards of the society, which no speaker or reformer could ever introduce. By revealing the truth of the incidents, the public can realize the problems and supervise the development of the problems. Finally the relative institutes that under the pressure of the mass could solve the problems as soon as possible. The Watergate scandal is a typical example, when the inhonest(dishonest behavior) bahaviour of Nixon was exposed to the public, people began to pay attention to the black truth of the election. President Nixon had to step down under the great pressure of the mass.(最后这句话像是多余了) From then on, people start to care more about the process of election.(仅仅是care about,如果能讲讲措施,哪怕是一个,比如是不是选举过程更加透明了,等等) In this sense, scandals help people be the supervisors.
Moreover, through the expoure of scandals, people could amend the laws and regulations to avoid the similar problem in the future. After the Enron scandal and the WorldCom scandal, people realized the big accounting frauds in many companies, which gives rise to the reform of the financial system. With increasing more drugs scandals in sports being exposed, the anti-doping commission constantly sets down the strictly new regulation. When the plagiarism scandals were revealed by the media, the authorities and experts began to establish a strict regulation concerning the publishment of essays in the academia, where used to be considered as the unblemished realm.(这几个例子很好,简单又说明了问题,向你学习) Thus, scandals help us find the leaks of the nowadays regulations and then improve them.
Admittedly, scandals sometimes may be harmful to the society. Some scandals are actually deliberate incidents for someone’s personal intentions. For example, certain unpopular actors, by creating scandals such as star-sex scandals, which could easily catch people’s curiosity, quickly become well-known. These scandals not only waste the public’s time and energy but also divert individual’s attention to some trivialities, while at the same time ignore other relatively important information concerning national defence, scietific research, economic development and so on.
To sum up, I concede that some scandals may be deleterious, but some do can be(强调句可以那么用吗?怀疑) useful to serve to expose serious problems to which no speaker and no reformer could refer and help improve now regulations.
厉害i,特别是局的例子,很丰富哦
思路很清晰,不过感觉话说少了,自己分析的不够多,特别是B2,很精彩的一段,多点自己的分析就好了
