Argument174
The following recommendation was made by the president and administrative staff of Grove College, a private institution, to the college's governing committee.
'We recommend that Grove College preserve its century-old tradition of all-female education rather than admit men into its programs. It is true that a majority of faculty members voted in favor of coeducation, arguing that it would encourage more students to apply to Grove. But eighty percent of the students responding to a survey conducted by the student government wanted the school to remain all female, and over half of the alumni who answered a separate survey also opposed coeducation. Keeping the college all-female, therefore, will improve morale among students and convince alumni to keep supporting the college financially.'

From the argument, the author recommends that Grove College should reserve its century-old tradition of all-female education rather than admit men into its programs. To support his conclusion, the author cites two surveys which are seemly credible. However, after careful scrutiny, there are many flaws in this argument besides the survey.
The threshold problem is the survey. There is no strong evidence that can prove both of the surveys are credible. Who conducted these surveys? How do they make out? Dose the method correct? And how much people receive these surveys? It is entirely possible that only a small number of people take these surveys. And there is no evidence that the survey's respondents are representative the overall. Lacking such evidence, it is possible that people who cared about the college's form were more willingly to responds than other people were. Moreover, on the ground that there is no evidence to show us whether the survey is anonymous or not, I can doubt the survey’s authentic for that the respondents did not tell the truth. Perhaps some respondents who support reserving had received some benefits. Or perhaps, most of the girls were too shy to tell their true thought. All above-mentioned, if true, will render the author's argument unconvincing.
Second, the author comes to a conclusion that changing the college former form will
reduce morale among students., further means to reduce the quality of education. However, it is not the case. For one thing, on the condition that there are not only women in the world, the students should not only learn knowledge but also learn how communicate with other people, here, the male. The people who cannot communicate with others may not only lose morale but also may loss situation in the world, let alone do some contribution to the society. On the other hand, according to authority research that the thinking styles of male and female are different, coeducation can mix with both thinking style and increase efficiency. Females and males can learn each other, compete each other, and improve themselves head by head. Therefore, coeducation will improve the morale not reduce.
Finally, the author makes a gratuitous assumption that if the college chooses coeducation, the alumni will stop supporting the college financially which is absurd. From the argument we can acquire this information that a majority of faculty members voted in favor of coeducation, arguing that it would encourage more students to apply to Grove. It is clearly that more students mean more chance for business for some business supporters. Without credible evidence to prove the alumni will reduce their supports, the author's recommendation is groundless.
In sum, the author recommends keeping all-female form cannot convince me only based on those evidence in this argument. To better solidify his recommendation, the author should give more evidence that can lend strong support.
因为早上没有看到同主题,所以随便写了一篇。
发现现在写作文真是越来越没劲了,写了一半就写不动了。。。。
