"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

In today's technologically advanced society, the importance of study of history seems decreasing and attenuating gradually. Even some people held the same claim with the author that we just need study the history that is relevant to our daily lives, because they think only this part is value for us. I disagree with the conclusion absolutely. In my opinion, the study of whole history will benefit to us, whether it is relevant to our daily lives or not.  

Every nation has its history, whether long or short, and it reflected the process of the nation development. From the history, we can get more information about our ancestors’ activity, for instance, how to set up the new dynasties and how to prosper the new country; how to defend the foreign fight or aggression and how to solve the conflict with the neighboring countries. Based on the history study and research, maybe we can generalize the common rules of the society evolution that is applied not in the modern society but also in the future. So, it is possible for us to deduce the future of our society and civilization according to the common rules. It will help us to prepare for the chance and challenge of society in advance.

Moreover, the history is the best teacher for the future development. A famous politic said that “we can adjust a person’s apparel with a mirror, while we can correct a nation power with the history”. Through the study and research of the history, we can learn the failure and success happened in the history. The failure reminds us against to do same or similar thing again and the success tells us to how to take advantage of the circumstance to construct and flourish the country. For example, in the last, people only pat attention to the promote the development of the industry and economy, however, ignore keeping the ecology balance, pollution, over-hunting and over-deforesting happened in every where of the country. At last, what human being done is doomed to result in the disaster to themselves, such as the sandstorm, flood peak. Nowadays, people realize the serious of mistakes made in the history, and understand the importance of the environment, hence take measures to protect the rare animal and plant in the earth step by step. Just like a famous saying "the failure is the mother of success". Only people realize the failure and mistake in the history, can they avoid making the same or similar mistake and make progress or success in the current or future society. In the same way, we can learn much in the success precedent from the history.

In addition, the study of the history helps us to protect and develop the traditional culture and rituals. Under the impact from the foreign culture, the traditional culture and rites are diminishing. Through the study of history, we can get more knowledge and background of the traditional culture, the original meaning of the culture, the purpose of the rituals and so on, which will help us to conserve it in the current society. In some extent, the traditional culture is a useful tool for increasing the pride and uniting of one country.
