------题目------
Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.
------正文------ 537 words
Although immediate problems are urgent and have significant impact on our society, I strongly disagree with the speaker's claim that governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems rather than the anticipated ones of the future. In fact, to be in office, governments have predilection to solve pressing problems at the expense of the anticipated ones. Moreover, in my observation, only governments are able to address certain problems of future, which is tantamount to the pressing ones, especially when anticipated.
Admittedly, certain problem, if not well addressed, will undermine the stability and advancement of our society. Let's consider the example of SARS. If governments do not take certain effective action to fight against, the panic and substantial disaster will surely undermine the development of any nation.
However, considering governments have inclination to solve more immediate problems, it would be unwise to call for more attention for such (指代不清,如果是指眼前问题的话不应该用unwise 吧)problems from government. Although the reputed function of governments is to serve their citizens, the practical goal of any democratic governments indeed devolves into maintain their power. For only though victories in election or reelection can a would-be government be in office, if not, all their blueprints about the nation, either immediate or of future are no more than a utopia. One needs look no further than certain election slogans to find illustrating evidence. To address the problem of unemployment, which is one of the most immediate ones, is often the priority of governments, for these pressing problems are always major concern of the electorate, who governments must cater to. Realizing our democratic system has indeed make governments to focus on the immediate problems, we should call for more attention on the anticipated problems of future.(语言很好啊,意思也很明确,但是你的意思是说因为政府已经在眼前问题上做了足够的重视,所以我们应该更重视以后的问题。这样你的论点是we should call for more attention on the anticipated problems, 而我认为论点应该是Governments should focus more on anticipated problems主体不同啊)
Another reason of contention with the speaker is that only through governments can certain anticipated problems get addressed—that is if governments do not step in such problems, they will stay unaddressed forever. Let's take of environmental problems for an example, except from government, hardly any organization or individual can solve the problem. For the project is some demanding both economically and technically, while governments get money from taxpayers' pockets for nothing and are obliged to so(while是什么意思).
Moreover, if problems can be anticipated to occur or deteriorate in future, they are almost tantamount to the pressing ones. For without effective and immediate actions to cure them, the situation in tomorrow can be reparable. Consider the anticipated population explosion in Asia and Africa, the rampant demographic increase will not only exert stress on the limited resources heavily but also have negative influence on the economy. As a result, these nations can hardly get any opportunity to advancement in future, which is certainly the ultimate concern of any government. In short, by focusing less on anticipated problems, government are abusing their power or too passive to be qualified at best.
In final analysis, we can emphasize less on attention on immediate problems from governments, for due to the desire to win elections, governments have predilection to do so. Given the predilection of governments to solve the immediate problems at the expense of the future ones and only government can solve certain long-run problems, it is necessary for government to focus more on the anticipated problems.(整体感觉就是第三段的论点有点跑,而那一段好像又是你重点写的,所以还是有些问题的) |
