It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value.
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

It is claimed in the arguement that the artist but not the critic gives society something of perpetual value. I fundamentally agree with what the arguer asume. However, in my opinion, while we value the contribution of the artist, it is not necessary to trivialize the significance of the critics`s work.

In the first place, it is common knowledge that without artists there would be no productions of art of any sort. Artists are the writers of all works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc. Good artists are the pulse of times and what they produce reflects what they want to express and social status. For example, without the artist, where can we see the Statue of Liberty which is the symbol of national freedom and democracy. without the writer----Margeret Mitchell, how can read the famous novel--Gone with wind, which gained fame throughout the world for generations because it vividly recollected the histry of American Civil War. Therefore, when we appreciate a masterpiece, we should not forget who dedicated to it.

In the second place, it is the critic who discovers the artist , make him or her known to public. On one hand, if lacking of information provided by critics, so many works in the worlds do few people know what they want to choose . For instance, due to many movies produced in all globe every year, it is difficult for the viewers to select a films which they maybe like to watch without the guiding of critics, who know better artist and his or her movie. On other hand, there are many artworks for few people to understand, exceptly a newborn artists. At this time, it is necessary for the critic to discovers them, criticize their artworks, and introduce them to public. The critic actually help public find a good works.

Last but no leat, critic`s criticism helps the artist to improve his or her composition. There is a saying in China:the insiders is really puzzling while outsider remains clearly.It actually want to express a meaning that outsider knows status, which insider state, better than insider. It is likely the outsider that critic know artists and their artwork better than artists themselves. In some sence, artists sincerely anticipate a feedback of their production from the critics to improve the ability and skill. Sometimes they even need the criticizm of the critics to stimulate the inspiration.

In conclusion, there are still more evidence to support foregoing point, which, unfortunitely, have no time to illustrate in detail. But what I have discussed above should well demonstrate that the artist and the critics contribute to art.
