Must a public official maintain highest ethical and moral standards, as the author has claimed? In my opinion, it depends on whether the ethical and moral standards are the key element in deciding the public official's effectiveness of leadership.

Admittedly, the ideal situation should be that every person in the world all strictly complies with the highest moral and ethical standards. Nonetheless, as the saying goes, although there is no perfect circle in the world, we are trying toward it. In real world, flaws in ethical and moral aspects are inevitable especially in different areas where the circumstances are totally different.

The first aspect involves the politics and business areas. For a business leader, his/her duty is to maximize the profits to benefit every shareholder in the corporation. While in the process of seeking maximized profits, it may contradict to the other aspects like the environment protection. In my opinion, the business leader should try to protect the environment to keep high moral standards, within the extent that the basic profits could be assured. It is similar for the political leaders, especially in wartime. For example, during the war in Japan at the end of World War Two, numerous American young people and adults were called up to join the army although they may have to face the threatening of death in Japan. While it seemed unethical for the president to participate in the war since life is the most important thing in the world, he had to do like that for benefits of all United States people’s safety in the long run.

However, the extravagant abandoning of ethical standards of political leaders may lead to drastic damage. For instance, the former president Nixon's dishonesty for pursuing on the personal interest imposed harms on the democracy system, which is the basis of United States people's freedom.

Nonetheless, when it comes to areas where the moral and ethics are the prerequisite for the leadership, the lead must follow strictly the ethical and moral standards. Any flaws in their character would undermine their effectiveness of leadership. For instance, the spiritual leaders Gandhi and Martin Luther king were all of high reputation on moral aspects. After all, it is the very moral standard that truly leads their followers.

In conclusion, whether the public official maintains the highest ethical and moral standards depends on.

政治类不好写啊，虽然觉得你意思表达得已经挺清楚了，我是写不了这么好的，但是我还是能挑毛病的。

第二段你举的商业的例子是要作类比吗，觉得没有什么共性，而且战争的例子好像不能说政府就降低了道德标准，毕竟政府是让人民为了自己的生存去打仗的。你可以举中世纪政府为了贵族的利益欺骗压榨下层人民，那是为了代表政府的少数人的利益，政府必须放弃标准的。还有就是第一句不是TS啊，或者写得感觉不好。你说涉及政治和商业，但是我从上文没看出来要涉及商业和政治的什么东东。

第三段挺好，就是短了点。可以加些说理的

第四段你是说要保持高标准呢还是保持一个标准就行了，从后文看好像是高标准吧。TS里说清楚，而且觉得例子可以说得再细些说说他们保持了什么样得道德，有什么好的结果。其实我是说不来的，因为好多话英文实在不会，单词太少了，呵呵。
