The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

According to the speaker, the greatness of individuals can be decided by those who live after them. However, the speaker overstates the claim to extreme by stating that it can not decided by their contemporaries. In my point of view, the greatest of individuals can be decided largely by people who live after them, and the opinions of their contemporaries should not be neglect.

To begin with, people who live after the greatness individuals can give a more comprehensive and objective evaluation to their works and achievements. Whether an individual is great or not is decided by how their achievements have affected the development of society and the contributions he or she made to the society. Time is like a filter, only those theories that have undergone the test of time and questions could survive till today. Therefore, it is more easy for the people who live after the great individuals to provide a fair commend. Take the famous scientist Copernicus for example, he firstly claim that the universe is heliocentric five hundred years ago when nearly all the people believe that earth was the centre of the universe. The convention that our universe is geocentric was hold by the Catholicism at that time and anyone who challenged the theory was considered mad and irreverence to the popery. Another famous scientist named Bruno ,who backed Copernicus' theory was fired to death at last as a severe punishment. The contemporaries of their time were convinced by the idea that the dogmas of Catholic was right. However, further scientific research reveals that Copernicus was right and the death of Bruno was undeserved . A lot of people could not get recognition at their time and some of them even suffered contempt from their peers. The contemporaries of a great individuals would not possibly give a objective and accurate analysis to the achievements of the great ones because they are limited by the objective circumstances. Passed time will give them a fair reevaluation.

Secondly, under some circumstances the greatness of individuals can be decided by their contemporaries and then their theories was proved flaw by the people live after them, but this could not shaken the greatness of the individuals. Newton's classical physics theory was acknowledged by their contemporaries as the theories play an important roles in explaining many phenomena in the world. However, his theories were questioned by another famous scientist who live after him, Einstein found the theories established by Newton can be only applied to a small part of condition. Einstein then complemented Newton's theory by providing a mew theory of relativity, which can be applied to recount the mechanism of the things when they travel at a high speed near to the speed of light. But this new discovery does not overshadow the greatness of Newton, we human beings may live in a society full of chaos and confusions without Newton's theory. The people lived after the great individuals can give them a comprehensive evaluation which will help to enhance instead of shaken the greatness of the great individuals.

Thirdly, though it is easier for people live after the great individuals to offer an objective opinion, the ideas of their contemporaries should not be ignored either. Their ideas can be served as an important references to the people who live after them. The way people thought in the past is the reflection of the progress of society. Our views toward our contemporary great individuals may have challenged by people who live after us. Therefore, we can also made an objective evaluation to our decisions.

In sum, the greatness of individuals can be decided by people who live after them and their contemporaries. Compared to their contemporaries, the people who live after them can give a more objective and comprehensive evaluations.

To begin with, people who live after the greatness (改为great) individuals can give a more comprehensive and objective evaluation to their works and achievements. Whether an individual is great or not is decided by how their achievements have affected the development of society and the contributions he or she made to the society. Time is like a filter, only those theories that have undergone the test of time and questions could survive till today. Therefore, it is more easy (easier) for the people who live after the great individuals to provide a fair commend. However, further scientific research reveals that Copernicus was right and the death of Bruno was undeserved. A lot of people could not get recognition at their time and some of them even suffered contempt from their peers. The contemporaries of a great individual would not possibly give a objective and accurate analysis to the achievements of the great ones because they are limited by the objective circumstances. Passed time will give them a fair reevaluation. (这一段说的挺好,但例子是不是有点太冗长了)

However, his theories were questioned by another famous scientist who live (lives) after him, Einstein found the theories established by Newton can be only applied to a small part of condition. Einstein then complemented Newton's theory by providing a mew(new) theory of relativity, which can be applied to recount the mechanism of the things when they travel at a high speed near to the speed of light. But this new discovery does not overshadow the greatness of Newton, we human beings may live in a society full of chaos and confusions without Newton's theory (这句话有点问题吧,如果没有牛顿定理,我们的社会陷入混乱??至少chaos这个词用得不对). The (the去掉) people lived after the great individuals can give them a comprehensive evaluation which will help to enhance instead of shaken the greatness of the great individuals. (你举的例子不一定能说明结尾这句话吧,实际上Newton不如以前人们想象的那样伟大了)

Thirdly, though it is easier for people live after the great individuals to offer an objective opinion, the ideas of their contemporaries should not be ignored either. Their ideas can be served (be served改为serve) as an (an去掉) important references to the people who live after them. The way people thought in the past is the reflection of the progress of society. Our views toward our contemporary great individuals may have challenged by people who live after us. Therefore, we can also made (make) an objective evaluation to our decisions.

In sum, the greatness of individuals can be decided by people who live after them and their contemporaries. Compared to their contemporaries, the people who live after them can give a more objective and comprehensive evaluations.
