I strongly agree that to be a greatest country the best indicator is all its people as the statement claims. However, the statement downplays the role of the rulers, artists or scientists and undermines the relationship between them and the welfare of all its people.

The surest indicator of a great nation is all its people because the development of a country relies on all the people. The people are the foundation of the country. Just as a football team in which all the members try their best and cooperate with each other can win the match, the country will stand in the world and bloom its economy and advance the science and technology. What the people to country is also like what the river to the boat. The country is like the boat on the river while all its people is the river. Only when the river is peaceful can the boat maintain a stable state and move smoothly. On the contrary, the boat might be sank to the bottom of the river when the river is in a bad condition. The country can be prosperous and advance greatly through fulfilling the welfare of all its people.

Nevertheless, we cannot deny the role of the achievements of rulers, artists and scientists and their great influence on the welfare of the people if we define the welfare of the people as the improvement on the quality of the people’s life such as overall convenience and comfort, public health, security, enhancement of the spirit and culture richness. Actually, it should be the task of the scientist, rulers and artists to fulfill it. We can see how the achievement of scientists, rulers and artists bring the aim into fruition as following.

With the ever-increasingly development of the science and technology, few scientist might disagree that the scientific achievement serve to enhance the national welfare of the people. A good case in point is that automatic machines, efficient robots and powerful computers have now taken much of the heavy work once done only by hand. Here are some other convincing examples: today, the cell phone can link you with anyone anywhere and anytime. Medical breakthroughs have eradicated many fatal diseases that once killed millions of people. And a variety of thriving technologies is playing their indispensable roles in transportation, physics, agriculture and so forth. Indeed, these achievements enhance the welfare of the people.

Throughout history of human history, the rulers like political leaders equally devote themselves to fulfill the important aim. For instance, George Washington, the first President of America，is one of the most important founder of this great country. Without him and his brave behaviors in the war, the destiny of America might be undetermined and American people will live a happy life. Lincoln, one of the greatest political leaders in America, saved the country from the disintegration and freed the slaves in America from the unjustified Slavery. Without this person, civil war might not be waged in American and the whole country was still separated. What' more, slaves might still suffer under the control of white men.

The artists also contribute to the welfare of the people. Perhaps one of the most basic functions of the arts is that they provide pleasure. The good works lift the spirit of people and inspire the people’s imagination and creativity. By providing us with insight into society,the famous works make people learn the society better and live peacefully with each other. Besides, the works of art enrich the human culture and promote it greatly.
