The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.

The speaker asserts that we can tell much about a society's value by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. I partially agree with the speaker insofar as for most of the time the attitudes and interests of people can be reflected by their look, dress and acts, however, a deep understanding of a society's ideas and values requires us to delve into some other factors beneath the appearance and behavior of people.

To begin with, the way people look, dress and act usually reveals their attitudes and interests. Turning to the cloth people wear first, American people tend to wear casual cloth such as T-shirt or jeans for they value freedom most, meanwhile, people in France like to wear cloth that is stylish or even strange to people in other countries for there is a deep romantic value in their culture background. Wherever, in the Eastern countries such as China, Korea and Japan, people are accustomed to wear western-style suit to work as a stand of formality. Then, turning next to the behavior of people in different countries. Two American people are more likely to hug with each other when they meet after separated for a long time, this warm hug rooted in the freedom and open mind of America civilization. In contrast, two Arabian people tend to keep a distance between each other when they meet or when they have a talk even though the two are closed friends. Also, in some western countries where people place much more concern on privacy, it is offensive to walk into their living room. Therefore, under some circumstances, the way people dress, act can reveal their attitudes and intrinsic ideas.

Meanwhile, as our world are more homologous than ever before due to the fast development of technology and economy, the differences in dress of people in different nations are less distinctive. Today, we can see many teenagers wear the polo shirt of their loved football team in almost every countries. Many famous football team such as Real Madrid ,AC Milan have fans all over the world. The fans wear the copied cloth of their loved stars, have a same haircut as the stars do though they are different in nationality, color, religious believes and moral values. The cloth they wear and the behavior they conducted simply shows their great enthusiastic toward a football team and there is no any relevant to their ideas and values.

Furthermore, in order to understand a society's ideas and values better we should delve our sight into some other factors beneath the attitudes that people toward a certain issue. Sometimes, only by observing the appearance and behavior of people in one society is not enough. Take the abortion for example, in some countries, it is thought to be illegal for it challenged the bottom moral line of a society, however, in some other countries, abortion is permitted. Our society is an diversity world, so there are diversity moral standards in different countries. There is no any accurate criteria to evaluate which moral standard is right and which is wrong as different countries have different conditions. Therefore, sometimes we can learn about a society's value from its laws, which can not be represented by the appearance of its people.

In the final analysis, the way people look, dress and act indeed represent their attitudes and interests under some circumstances. Besides, if we want to get a deep acquaintance with a society's value and ideas, we need to pay attention to some other factors such as internationalization, laws and so on.
