According to this statement, the author thought that artist brings lasting valuable things to our society, not the critic. I definitely agree with the author’s idea, though critic could help people to understand and interpret the value of artwork, they could not make the artwork lasting to the society, only artists themselves could.

As we all know, artist creates valuable things such as novels, films, music, paintings and so on. These artworks reflect the artists thinking, ideas, and emotions so that people could read and understand artist by their artworks, no matter how many generations last. Beethoven, Shakespeare, Van Gogh and all that virtuosos are too numerous to mention one by one.

When artist and their artworks appear, critic and critical words are come out at the same time, these critic comments on the artworks by their own idea and follow a standard that ages have. I do not deny that some critic could give his own opinions that is right to the artworks and help people to understand and interpret what the artwork about and what is the meaning, but actually critic always gives wrong critical to the value things, and neglect the real values the artwork has. Owing to critic always judge an artwork whether it has value or not is depend on the standard that ages default, but real valuable things reflect the true condition of that ages and usually more extension. Unfortunately, the critic who lived in that ages usually could not notice the essence of the society, and the implication that artworks indicate.

Action speak louder than words, Monet did not find acclaim and wealth to later in his life and at times suffered through extreme poverty; Emily Dickinson has since come to be regarded as one of the two great American poets of the 19th centery, though almost unknown and nearly unpublished in her own lifetime, Dickinson; Emily Bronte was a British novelist and poet, best remembered for her one novel Wuthering Heights, an acknowledged classic of English literature, but it received mixed reviews when it first came o
ut, the book did not become an English literary classic until forty years later.

So, it is the artist who brings lasting valuable artworks to our society. Truly lasting value things are famous of its meaning inside, not the face value that critic added. Because these things contain artists’ distillates of they’re personal thinking, the center of their whole life, and the crystal of their wisdom. That’s why Monet, Emily Dickinson, Van Gogh didn’t catch society’s focus on, and now famous worldwide after they had been neglect that long.

In sum, artist create opus, which just like a mirror, refract the culture that their ages have, to make future generations to attain the understanding and appreciate of those history value from the mirror, so that their artworks could bring lasting values to the society critic could not make any contributions at this time, or even make adverse effects.
