"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
The speaker asserts that it is the arts not critics attribute the success of the long lasting arts. I fundamentally disagree with this assertion for the attitude because of the attitude of the denial about critics. I think both arts and critics are playing significant roles on the development of the long lasting arts.
Admittedly, no one could deny the crucial role of the artists in the creation of the artistic works. As we know, the process of designing and producing an art require the high skill and unique idea of the creator. Take something for example, Cao , the famous writer all over the world, spend half of his life and all his possession to write the novel the Legend of Stone. Unfortunately, he died before finishing the writing. But the Legend of Stone makes a great effort to China, even the whole world. In the history of human, there are so many great artists share the same experience with Cao. Without them, the modern society could not enjoy the long lasting arts.
Ostensibly, artists create the work make it possible to have a “long lasting” effect in the civilization ultimately. In fact, critics also play paramount role in developing the artworks. Vencent van Gogh, the author of Sunflower and The Red Vineyard, had little success during his lifetime. After his suicide, the society began to realize the treasures he left due to the work of critics. So we can conclude that the comments of the critics provide the people with the opportunity to focus the attention on the further meaning of the artistic works.
Furthermore, the critics also contribute the development of the study in the realm of arts and help the artists to create a better works in the future achievement. Not only the common persons can learn how to appreciate the profound works of the arts but also the artists themselves also get the real reflect of their works. That is a significant way to help the young artists who do not have many experiences in the creation of the artistic works. Certain comments and efforts could improve the artistic works to become long lasting works.
In sum, I should conclude that both critics and artists are necessary in the creation of arts. Only the cooperation of them could achieve a long lasting artistic work.
Issue 131 (15)
"The arts (painting, music, literature, etc.) reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society."
Issue 190 (14)
"As long as people in a society are hungry or out of work or lack the basic skills needed to survive, the use of public resources to support the arts is inappropriate—and, perhaps, even cruel—when one considers all the potential uses of such money."
Issue 218 (26)
"In order for any work of art—whether film, literature, sculpture, or a song—to have merit, it must be understandable to most people."
"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
The speaker asserts that it is the arts not critics attribute the success of the long lasting arts. I fundamentally disagree with this assertion for the attitude (可以省掉,跟后面有点重复) because of the attitude of the denial about critics. I think both arts and critics are playing significant roles on (是不是应该用in) the development (用creation是不是好些?) of the long lasting arts.
Admittedly, no one could deny the crucial role of the artists in the creation of the artistic works.(晕,看来我们参考的是同一篇文章) As we know, the process of designing and producing an art (artwork)requires the high skill and unique idea of the creator. Take something for example, Cao , the famous writer all over the world, spend half of his life and all his possession to write the novel the Legend of Stone(书名加引号把). Unfortunately, he died before finishing the writing(work 好些把,感觉writing好像是指书法). But the Legend of Stone makes a great effort(试想说产生深远影响吗?是effect把,直接用动词impact也可以) to China, even the whole world. In the history of human, there are so many great artists share the same experience with Cao. Without them, the modern society could not enjoy(any) the long lasting arts.
Ostensibly, artists create the work make it possible to have a “long lasting” effect in the civilization ultimately. In fact, critics also play paramount role in developing Vencent van Gogh, the author of Sunflower and The Red Vineyard, had little success during his lifetime.
Not only the common persons can learn how to appreciate the profound works of the arts but also the artists themselves also(can) get the real reflect of their works.
