213. "Too much emphasis has been placed on the need for students to challenge the assertions of others. In fact, the ability to compromise and work with others--that is, the ability to achieve social harmony--should be a major goal in every school."
有限制时间了,仍然写的一沓糊涂,得靠事后修改,咋办?

To challenge assertions of others or just learn to compromise, what is the most essential goal every school should exert on students and inherently carry out? In fact, Critical thinking which Challenges the assertions, even authorities or standards alike, used to bid defiance to defy rather than subordinate. Especially in school, it is the inevitable course of acquiring one’s quality of learning. On the other hand, the ability to compromise and work with, that is, cooperation which leads to societal harmony, is also important to us. The alternatives of both are mutually indispensable, and should be considered on balance instead of one-sided deflection.

First of all, challenge is the necessary way which leads to renovate or break up a shackle of convention and dogma by critical thinking so as to set up new. If everyone intends to confine oneself in an inert conformity of discerning things or ideas all the same, what a terrible situation it would be? There would be short of creative things or amazing ideas, people would intend Blindly to be in agreement with others, our society would bog in stasis, and our mind would suffer from rigidity, no discovery and even no improvement at all. For example, without challenge convention and try to think in different, our ancestors may still live in caves, and rub out fire only with flint needless to say win over wild animals and obtain primacy; Without challenge, How could those theory, such as Columbus’s geography discovery or Copernicus’s advanced theory disrupting the Ptolemaic system of astronomy alike, be realized and put into practice as we have done in sciences, technologies, etc? All in all, challenge is the most effective way to exterminate conformity and brush aside banality.

Furthermore, challenge is to improve, but not to harm our society's harmony. As we all know, a pool of backwater is apt to rot, correspondingly appropriate skeptic will do goodness to one’s creativity, and by concourse will advance the speed of uplifting force which will engender technical inventions to come forth and societal prosperity to thrive with vigor and animation. Obviously, in the minor consideration, to every student, if we underestimate the function of challenge, he or she will fail to classify what is true or false, and will be reluctant to sharp ability to be qualified with academic or research work. There will be no sufficient insightful researchers to take on the responsibility of impel the progress of science and technology. As a result, no harmony would occur.

Admittedly, compromise by what is right, and then utilize it under cooperation is the insurance of our society's harmony and basic trait which a qualified student should be provided with. Cooperating with others does not mean that one has to compromise timely and brush off one’s selfhood. Before asserting an idea, students should firstly assess it, and hence disinter the truth. If the idea servers to good and should be facilitated with cooperation, so comes the compromise. However, it is obviously that if we excessively incline to compromise regardless of what it is perhaps wrong, We will lose the most energy which a harmonious society strongly depends on.

Here comes to a point, at school, educator should instill students with the advantage and disadvantage of both challenge and compromise. Unbalanced insistence of each partially will do great harm to students' growth, and lead them to an adverse course of learning.
