        I am delighted to inform you that you have been accepted into the graduate program at the Department of Physics at the University of Missouri-Columbia with financial assistance in the form of a Teaching Assistantship (TA) for 2006-07.  Last semester the TA income was at the rate of $12,020 for nine academic months.  We expect a modest raise for future years to which you will be eligible. With this offer the University waives tuition fees for students as long as they maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher.  As a new graduate student, you are required to enroll for a minimum of nine hours.  The current costs are $108.03 for Student activities, $55 for student health, and $63 for instructional computing.
         
        During summer, several fellowships of the order of $3000 are available. You may also be able to work in the research laboratory of a professor as a research assistant. Offers of research assistantships are also possible. As you become familiar with the research programs of our faculty, these matters become clearer.

        As a TA your responsibilities will be to teach 2-1/2 laboratory classes each week.

        We have a very strong program in Physics with thrust areas in condensed matter, biological, neutron and optical physics. We look forward to seeing you at Columbia in time for the Fall semester beginning in August 2006 or sooner.  We hope that you will take full advantage of the academic and cultural experience our University has to offer.  I personally invite you to our department and wish you success in your studies.
