Does the question and criticism damage social harmony, as the speaker said? I fundamentally disagree with the contention of the speaker, for the reason that the developing question and criticism is a dramatically far-reaching thing to students, even influence their lives in the long term, which, in turn, will more or less affect the society. In some sense social harmony will be promote by the question and criticism. On balance, however, I concede that those behaviors sometimes will disturb and harass the harmony of the society.
To begin with, the threshold reason why I disagree with the statement of the speaker is that education encouraging question and criticism is an inevitable manner to shape students, increase their lives and benefit our society. As a matter of fact, that manner can not and must not be regarded as the terrible instruction to students as the speaker's view. In science field, people can not say that they should reject and deny the ability of question and criticism to avoid damaging social harmony, for the reason that the science advance generally depends on the suspect and challenge the established theories and principles. In medical field, students will not stop researching new drugs and methods because those novel things will shake the foundation of the older ones, and make it possible that people begin to suspect the hospital and doctor in that the varying prescriptions. Encouraging students to question and criticize, which may damage social harmony in some condition. Yet, comparing with the benefits and success brought, we should and must stimulate people to have critical thinking.
Then, another reason why I am not inclined to the attitude of the speaker is that under some circumstances, students, who prefer to question and criticize any problems, facts and theories, will directly and indirectly spring up and promote social harmony. The speaker might neglect another fact that question and criticism generally promote social harmony. Consider, for example, the novel clone technology. When it was invented and people succeeded clone the first sheep, the hotly debate and controversies were generated because it affects the people's daily lives. People suspect whether the clone will damage the base of ethics and morality, and whether that novel and amazing technology will threaten our lives and social harmony. Then, the debate and suspect well promote people to understand the influence ignited by the new technology and consider the relationship between people and technologies. Finally, through sound ways and regulations, people well handle the effect of the clone and promote social harmony in nowadays.
Admittedly, it is certain that if education overemphasize students to question and criticize, the harmony of the people life and the society will be influenced and damaged. Although those abilities are beneficial and good to people, they will create more problems and controversies leading to damaging social harmony, when people undue put to use them in unsuitable areas. For instance, some people greatly suspect the principles of democratic countries, which will result in hurt the unity of people and countries. As an employee criticizes the authority of employer, the reducing harmony naturally decreases the productivity.
To sum up, from the analysis and the relevant example, there is no doubt that the skill of question and criticism is important even inevitable in new century, and it also will promote the social harmony. Nonetheless, while people take it so far, it also badly influences the harmony of society. |
